Can Someone on the Right Explain the Best Case Scenario for Trumps Tariff Plan?

How is making it harder to purchase from outside the country going to shut down small businesses in the US?
A small % of goods we consume are actually made in the US. We can’t just flip a switch and replace China manufacturing here in the States, not to mention Americans don’t want to pay the higher costs of American made products. Like I said in another thread, I’d love to carry more American made products in my stores. My experience is that Americans balk at the higher prices because the higher cost to make theses items is considerable.

Perhaps “wholesale” prices? Those products come from some where…how many shoes are made in China?
LOL. That’s the point, we want things to be made in america. Great more American jobs.
Poor Timmy won’t be able to buy cheap shit from china anymore and make a huge profit on it when he sells it. Poor guy.

Ed say that but it is just not the truth. Americans are cheap and shirt-sighted when it comes to spending their money. They often spend against their best interests. Remember what happened to prices and supply chains post Covid? We had inflation! You wouldn’t have had those issues to the extent we did, if we would have had domestic production and supply chains in place. Slightly higher prices is often the price consumers pay for domestic tranquility. When you rely on “others” for your supplies, you are placing your well-being in the hands of folks who don’t share your concerns and values.

According to Trump, he intends to put tariffs on Chinese goods if they don’t play fair.

According to CNN, Trump’s tariffs will be between 60% and 60,000%.
No. According to Trump he is going to put a 60% tariff on 100% of Chinese goods. That is literally what he said on many occasions.

So either he fails to meet his campaign promise and we have more reasonable tariffs, or he achieves it and wrecks the economy.

Nope. Cost goes up with the higher cost to manufacture.

I’d love to sell more stuff made in the USA at our stores. The truth is most Americans don’t want to pay the higher price associated with products made here.
Bingo. You get it.

Whether it’s better or not, tariffs and American made=higher prices.
