Iowa will not reach the potential it should if Fran refuses to play anyone capable of blowing by ball pressure.

I think Fran going into kill clock mode pre 3 minute was a mistake and we dodged a bullet thanks to PSU missing free throws and shots.

We just don’t have anyone that can create a shot under 10 seconds on demand. The 3 straight Jbo desperation heaves were vomit inducing.

I understand what you are saying but late game you need a play maker come tourney time. We are going to run into really athletic teams the rest of the year. You have to have someone that can create space in late game situations when the defensive intensity is ratchet up to 12 and whistles are swallowed

Fran went to slowdown offense too soon and he should have had some plays for them to run with 10 seconds on shot clock. I'd take a 3pt shot from 5ft behind the arc by Fredrick over a fade away 3pt shot by JBO with a guy draped over him and 1 second left. I don' think it was inablility to break the full court pressure that made it closer than it should have been. It was empty possessions with incredibly difficult shot attempts.

Ulis can handle and shoot fts. He should have gotten some of CMAC and Jbos minutes this season so he could be in their to close the game. I'd take Ulis at FT line over CMAC or weezy...Ulis looked like he has a very good FT stroke. JoeT is exciting player, but not a game closer.

I didn't say "offense" was the problem.

I said lack of ability to beat ball pressure is a problem that will limit this teams ability to beat good teams.

Totally friggin agree. I don’t understand Fran. We are a very good team but could be even better if we used our point guards differently.

Im thinking Fran didn't want Michigan to be prepared for strictly man defense and thought he could buy some time against a garbage psu and give them something else to look at.

Almost cost him. Thats how bad that zone is.

I honestly wonder how practice looks when joe t and jbo go head to head. I have to imagine jbo struggles to initiate any sort of offense much like he does against any other athletic pg. does joe run circles around him on offense or does he push to much like he does in games? Anyone have any info on how practices look?

He does and he has. Unfortunately Joe has been a consistent mistake the past few games. I don’t see him doing anything that should earn him more PT. Also, he needs new shoes.

He also drove and kicked it to Nunge for a wide open 3 at the top of key, and Nunge threw a terrible pass instead of shooting.

Also threw a pass to Patrick in transition that should have been a layup if he caught it clean.

The travel was bad, I've never seen a player struggle with stopping as much as JT, but that play was about to be a drive and dish to Keegan for a dunk if he could have kept pivot foot down.

The offensive foul was not a charge, it was a tricky tack moving screen on an inbounds play.

Im sick of people nitpicking every little thing Toussaint does while ignoring all the good and glossing over Iowas lack of a real ballhandler on the court.

I just watched the last 5 minutes of the game and that was some of the worst basketball you'll ever see. Iowa should have probably lost that game if psu was a decent opponent.

How can you say that when ulis hasnt even had a chance? Ive been pro joet and still think he'd be fine if he thought his coach had some confidence in him but since his 10 and 6 game vs msu he looks like he's pressing and scared of getting yanked for 1 mistake while our starters make mistake after mistake. I think ulis is much better with ball control and gets to the line and is 17/18 in a miniscule amount of time. 4* (rivals) recruits don't just wait around for their time behind inconsistent starters. We have point guards...

And I haven't even mentioned defense since nobody values that evidently. Joe stopped a fast break when they got loose ball by turning the ballhandler twice at half court and almost caused a steal. No starter is capable of that. JT played bad and still got 4 boards.....same as "4" connor in 1/5 the minutes. Defense, athleticism, and intangibles matter. Why iis like to see perkins some too (besides token possession b4 half). Young guys were crucial down stretch vs the msu home game and been tossed aside since. I'm expecting at least 1 transfer, nepotism is a team killer.

Edit* jt only guy on team I think could win any kind of arm wrestling match. Our team strength is a joke, it contributed to weezy's 6 turnovers, especially last 2

Yeah, good point....I think his pigeon toes hurt him when he makes a jump stop. Feet turned in so he tends to drag one with that momentum, can't get stopped

The combo of JBO Connor is not an option for getting anywhere past the second weekend of the tournament.

You cannot play 5 guys together on the court where no one can beat a defender off the dribble and hope to win against a good team in a close game.

Actually that was a desperation shot that was well defended. It just went in.

As a whole psu guards are not better than Iowas, but Fran won't give up shooting and ball security for speed/play making and defense where just about every other coach in the world will.
