Can we get a PG on the floor?

Jordan Bohannon is 8th in the country in assist to turnover rate for the number 1 ranked offense in the country, yet this thread actually exists. Mind-blowing.

The next highest ranked big ten player is Trice at 46th.

I think Illini's Ayo is around 1.5 assist to TO and nobody gives a crap about that stat. I get CMAC lovers are in love with Assist to TO ratio, because it is only stat that CMAC
lovers can point to that he does well. Assist to TO ratio is a plus and JBO is a solid PG in many respects, but he lacks the ability to create his own shot off the dribble,.

JBo deserves to be in close games because he is low TO guy and shoots FTs well. He shouldn't be left with the rock
25ft from the basket with under 3 seconds on shot clock. JBO could have used someone that could actually break the press. JoeW and Fredrick have not shown great handles,
Garza is obviously not capable of breaking the press....CMAC is good decision maker, but slow footed. You need a guy like Ulis that is quick enough to bust out with the dribble before
the trap comes and make his FTs if he gets fouled.

Ulis to me looks like the better pure PG prospect than JoeT. I like JoeT, but his job is defense, not closing out a game. I think Ulis has really nice FT stroke. He deserves
to in the close the game lineup. Also Fran needs to get his team looking for a shot before the shot clock gets under 10 second. He should have plays called with some options because
the freelancing the Hawks did vs PSU was garbage. Fran also ought to sub more for defense/offense in closing minutes.

I understand Fran is a genius is some people's minds and can do no wrong, but he really has coached his best team in 11 years to 4th place...not 1st place, with two losses
to a mediocre Indiana team.

Ayo is a scoring guard for IL. He would be the starting scoring guard for any team he played on. What does that have to do with Iowa's PG?

Wow, must a long walk to the kitchen to grab that cold one that you miss 1/4 of the game because Joe averages over 25% of the time at pg.

Ha! But in all seriousness, check his minutes per game in conference, especially once CJ started missing games. Instead of playing Joe T and Ulis more to see what they could contribute (if anything) he chose to keep Bohannon on the floor to eat up a lot of Joe's minutes and gave CJ's minutes to a mix of PMac, CMac, Perkins, JW, and even Nunge when Fran was playing him on the floor with Garza at the same time, going big.

On a positive front, some of the lineups Fran's put out there have been very effective. Everyone mentions the defensive changes, but what's not being mentioned is that Fran has not been playing Nunge and Garza on the floor at the same time. It's really helped offensively and defensively.

I am not familiar with the position of “scoring guard”? The backcourt references I have always seen are point guard and shooting or off guard, and Ayo is considered their starting PG with Frazier the other starting guard. So are you intimating that a PG isn’t supposed to be a scorer? Tell that to Suggs, Butler, Carr, Zegarowski and the other top PGs in the country besides Ayo who will be playing professionally next year. Oh and also, the composite asset/turnover ratio for those 5 studs is around 1.8/1.0, way less than half of JoBo’s stats because they play aggressive, attacking basketball. So does that mean that JoBo is better than those guys even though his ballhandling and defensive skills are also deficient? Too many people on here overhype that one statistic big time. Caitlin Clark’s ratio is 1.33/1.0 and she averages 4.9 turnovers a game so she must really be a pathetic point guard and Bluder is crazy for letting her run the offense!

Sundays game: Bohannon 33 min 6 asst and 1 turn over
Toussaint 7 min 0 asst and 3 turn overs 0-2 free throws
In a tight game JBO has to be at point guard...

I realize Joe has only gotten a little over 15% of the court time at pg over the last 6 games. I’d like to see Joe get 10-12 mins a game to keep Jordan under 30 min of court time.

That's really all I think is needed. I think it would bode well for both Jordan and Joe T are getting regular minutes come tourney time. Joe T is going to be needed for more than 15 minutes in some games and it would be good if he was in somewhat of a rhythm by then. The Joe that exploded against Gonzaga when he was given more than ten minutes in the 2nd half was huge. He was extremely efficient offensively and was torching Suggs who was trying to guard him. When Joe shows that type of aggressiveness now, though, the hook is immediate. That sends the wrong signal to Joe, IMO, and his confidence isn't nearly what it was in November and December because of it.

I don't think it's out of line at all that Fran mismanaged his personnel for several games after CJ went down, most shockingly not sticking with Joe or Ulis in second halves after they had played well in the first, instead riding Jordan for the entire 20 minutes. That's just bonehead and it cost Iowa a shot at a B10 regular season championship and possibly a 1 seed. Being a two seed this year sucks because those top four as of now are damn tough. It would be good to not to face any of those four until the Final Four. As long as Fran can adjust and Joe T isn't broken then we'll all be able to look at the losing stretch as either an anomaly or a valuable learning experience.

Maybe when we start playing games outside of the B1G, the refs won't let opposing guards steer JBo around by pushing and grabbing him.

I didn't say "offense" was the problem.

I said lack of ability to beat ball pressure is a problem that will limit this teams ability to beat good teams.

Anyone who just watched that game and wants to argue that point is a fool.

The first half for sure. Second half they defended better. But PSU's inability to hit their shots helped as well.
