Can you fellas not see the spiritual warfare going on in America right now?

It's palpable. I can almost taste it. The divisions, darkness and disasters are seemingly endless.

"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places."

- Ephesians 6

We're in a fight for our souls individually and the soul of this country. We're in a cosmic battle. This life is a test. God has already won the war but it's up to us to win the battle.

80% of Americans won't go to Church today which is Sunday. We live in a post-Christian country.

I hope everyone will join me in praying for peace.

"Pray, Hope and Don't Worry!"
- Saint Padre Pio

God Bless.
I've been knocking on wood and crossing my fingers. Does that count?

If s church openly endorses Donald Trump, I'd recommend leaving.
“Every person is to be in subjection to the Governing authorities. Four there is no authority except from God and those which exist are established by God therefore whoever resist authority has apposed the ordinance of God and they who have apposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.”

I agree.

I have indeed broken all Commandments.
Honest question, Brian. Not trolling you, you seem like a good guy.

How would you describe or define God? I think the contradiction for many seems to be that God is omnipotent and super human yet at the same time defined using so many human like qualities (a guy in a robe with on a throne). How do you put all that together? It would seem to me that if there is a being of that stature in our universe "he" would be beyond our ability to comprehend.

Jesus is God, IMHO.

Why would people go to church? Church in USA has little to do with God or living with God’s spirit in you. Even you when people challenge you directly ghost people.

You would be well served by losing your Catholic rituals disguising as faith and get real with the God your mask with playing church.

God will always test your faith.

It works for Brian and he's one of the very few on here who professes his beliefs and then actually acts in a manner that is in accordance with the Golden Rule. He treats others with respect. Too many people who profess their beliefs in and love of God become uncaring asholes as soon as they step outside of church.

Thanks.

I go to Church for the Eucharist (Jesus said unless we get it we have "no life in us" and Confession when I commit sins which is often (Jesus gave the Church the authority to forgive sins.)

I don't think it's that simple. You can't paint with a broad brush. There are all kinds of churches and all kinds of people.

There are people that go to church to be seen there. There are those that truly go to affirm their faith. There are those that go because of the sense of community. There are those that go who are hypocrites and act differently as soon as they walk out the door. There are those that go out of a sense of obligation or upbringing. There are those that truly go to be Thankful. It's all over the board.

Exactly.

Churches have saints and sinners and everyone inbetween.

I am referring to Orthodox Christians. For whatever reason, their numbers have been rising due to an influx of younger more often than not male conservatives.

Interesting. But I find it odd the researcher singled out the Russian-Orthodox church which is like 5% of 1% of all US Christians. I’m not surprised some MAGA idiots see the word Russian and think it’s a church for them…but that is hardly indicative of any trends.

If you know what Orthodoxy is, then you’ll understand why they are predominantly apolitical. Predominantly conservative yes, but not MAGA and still apolitical.

Problem is, we don’t enough practicing Christians like you or myself who understand and see how everything about Trump, a godless man, and now his MAGA followers, is the exact opposite of the teachings of Christ. All Christians should see Trump and his surrounded as repugnant and repulsive. The majority sadly don’t.

Trump won the election so there's not much we can do except pray and hope the next 4 years work out.

A lot of people believe and try and live accordingly. Church is generally a negative experience for many. Basically it can be a money grab that is more than we want to admit, led by predators. Then stuff is covered up in the name of protecting the name of Christ.

I can name church after church locally where scandals and child abuse was covered up.

Until the church changes that, belonging to a church will decrease. The leaders and goers talk about how people just want to live in sin, but a huge part of that is the coverup and denial. Something like 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 4 boys have been sexually abused and quite a bit of that is in the church or the church doesn't want to deal the emotional damage that comes with that such as drug/alcohol additions or just plain out living unsuccessful lives. Most churches want to hear stories of those who are living the Christian life like a good Jew would have, but don't want the people who genuinely struggle, often through no fault of their own.

I will stand by that statement. And yes, I do spend time meeting the needs of homeless people in our area.

If you know anything about "Dinner Church", then you'd be churching more similar to how Jesus would likely do it.

I'm all for anything that brings people together in a positive way to support and help each other. In the end, that's the meaning of life. Being the best you can be and using your talents to help others.

Sadly churches are no different than any other organization. People who crave power will seek it and abuse it. I see it a little like being a police officer, you have a higher responsibility to use your station properly. Abusive clergy sicken me.
