I know I am not smarter than God, hell I’m not smarter than my 16 year old - at least according to her.
But have you ever thought to question why your version of God would want to eternally punish people who didn’t sufficiently adore him? Isn’t that…you know…kind of a shitty thing for God to do?
Talk about an asymmetric response! Sing my praises - eternal life of bliss. Question my existence - burn in the fires of hell. It comes across as insecure, heavily narcissistic and evil.

Sagan and others don’t believe they are smarter than god. They believe they are smarter than the superstitious and relatively ignorant folks who invented the god myths so many years ago.
As Christopher Hitchens put it, fundamentalist Christians want us to believe in a “celestial North Korea”.
I don’t believe in our accepted Western mythology anymore than any other culture’s mythology.

So the logic is: God doesn’t want to come across as a date rapist so He only accepts people into His kingdom who seek Him out?
If we believe the Bible then He is all powerful, He created people with the capacity for reason and observation. But only those He will accept are those that ignore their God given ability to reason, and ignore all physical and logical evidence to His own exisistence. Because otherwise He is forcing himself on you?
For the record I am not an atheist, more an agnostic who doesn’t know what is out there. But this type of logical leap is so confounding as to make me wonder why I bother questioning in the first place.
If you have to scream it in all caps, and in bold, then you don’t believe it yourself.

what there are 2 kingdoms, an upper and lower, people will choose the lower and there isnt much that can be done, you will follow the master of your mind heart and your soul(creativity emotions freewill and hopes), but God could just be saying, hey i am just trying to optimize those whom I saw before time that would love me.

there are 2 elements of crazy, lack of truth via ignorance or rejection, the former dealt with at personal judgement as a test, the 2nd they are not going to the upper kingdom unless they accept, the next is just a person you dont like, or abused you, or was cold, and this will be dealt with on earth and in purgatory, its a lack of trust in God to use this argument
I had the opportunity to sit through a Catholic mass a couple days ago. I grew up Catholic, but I drifted from it in my 20s. It’s been a long time since I’ve actually sat and observed the meaning behind the mass. It’s pretty bizarre. The whole concept of Christianity in general is bizarre. The Church is built on the foundation of using a scapegoat. The bloody sacrifice of an innocent to absolve the sins of the guilty is just weird.

First of all the ancient nation of Israel was Gods chosen people.(No longer. They were cast off as the chosen nation finally when they rejected Christ as the Messiah)
Second the Israelites were marching toward the promised land that God promised Abraham they would receive.
The pagan nations surrounding the israelites were heavily involved with god dishonoring practices(immoral sex, child sacrifice and more)
They were more than deserving of divine judgement. So the ancient battles against those nations were not just blatant killing of innocent people .
But not all of it is like that though, even today. I see some really good stuff happening at churches, and some really good acts from those who follow Christ. You get the good with the bad, Like just about everything else in life. Of course the bad is what most often makes headlines.
Good exists, therefore its opposite must also exist.

That's not what was said. God doesn't bring them to be with Him against their will. A rejection is different than failure to seek.

Question for all religious people on here. Did you find god on your own, or were you raised in a religious family and therefore believe what your family believes?
