Cassioppi to Iowa

What is their strategy going forward? Be a not as good version of Iowa in a state that Iowa owns? Kevin Dresser was more revered in Virginia than he is in Iowa, and he didn't have Tom/Terry Brands to contend with.

Honestly; they'd be foolish to not try and make Iowa a top priority state. Like Iowa currently says about PSU, need to compete and win against the best, recruiting and on the mat, in order to get to that level. Just giving up and saying, "the state of Iowa is cornered by Hawks, is giving up and I don't see Dresser doing that....yet

I agree with you, but I honestly don't feel like the state of Iowa is a priority for Iowa right now, because we simply need better talent. If ISU wins the state, it is likely because Iowa is letting them.

We aren't loading our team with Iowans anymore, you're right. But the top level ones, we are getting to stay in state however they aren't as often anymore, the Underwood kid as an exception but I thought he was a Nebraska Lean from the start, I guess layback for taking Gilman a few years back....ISU will continue to take the 2nd tier kids, albeit good kids, but not top 25/50 kids...

Don't get me wrong, this staff is a huge upgrade over the previous one, but I think their situation was better in Virginia than it is here. I guess they are all getting paid a lot more...

Outside of flipping the UW/LaCrosse recruit and Lara, the ISU recruiting to date has been rather underwhelming. Some ISU faithful apparently don't realize how far down the ladder the program has fallen.

There might be a suicide watch if Teske doesn't end up in Ames.
I look at it this way. A recruit probably says to himself while considering either Iowa or ISU, wait the guy down the road trained 3/4 of you guys and you have him to thank for all ur success? Plus both head coaches were trained by the same legend, but one has an Olympic goal medal and his Brother has a Bronze medal. I think I'm gonna go down the road

Most I've talked to, I live 30 miles N of Ames so I know plenty, realize the depths of the hole KJ put them in...

Some on CF aren't realizing it. Some thought they were in great position with both Lugo and Cass literally hours before they committed to Iowa.

That said, Dresser will improve their program tremendously.

You forgot 3 world championship gold medals, 3 NCAA team titles, fan support, the superiority of the HWC...

Wow. As an Illinois guy. Both Northwestern and Illinois. Iowa has been very rough to me over the last several months. Starting with Warner spurnning both in State schools and going to Iowa. Then, Perry making like the prodigal son and taking the HWC job. Followed shortly there after by Meija jumping back over to Iowa to be with Perry. Now, the one recruit that I had left at Northwestern that I was really excited about, Cassioppi, exits stage left and commits to Iowa. Plus, PSU slithered in and took Beard back to PA. Have to wonder how long Karoly and Jessen will stay committed. Painful.

Congratulatios to the Hawkeyes thought. I really like Cassioppi upside. He is a true Heavyweight and while I don't think he is in the same league as Stevenson, he is a fine recruit at a weight class of need. My only question is about Schultz. It appeared to me that Iowa and Schultz were always being linked by people. I don't know the validity of those links, but it seemed to be mentioned by posters quite a bit. What happens with the Schultz? Is he still recruited and let the best man win or do those resources get diverted to a more pressing weight class of need? Either way this is an excellent day for the Hawkeyes.

You know how I can tell you've never tried the drinking water in Ames?

I was thinking the same thing about Karoly and Jessen. Doesn't help you that they are both projected at 84, and we could use some kids in that range ;)

When it comes to Shultz and Parris Iowa may be making a good call going after Cass with rumors Parris goes football and Shultz goes the Bey route in Greco. Or maybe those two showed little interest in Iowa. All I know is yesterday I worried about Iowa's future at 285. Now with Cass, Costello and a good chance at F Duggan I no longer worry.

What's leading people to believe that Shultz isn't going to college?

The Hawkeyes and Schultz have been linked for obvious reasons. He was just in Iowa City earlier this spring for the HWC US Open camp. Spent some time wrestling with Telford and Burak. I don't think much changes with the signing of Cassioppi. Schultz bumped from Cadet to Junior and handled him at 120KG (Greco) in 2 matches for the world spot. Matches are available on Flo if you're a Pro member.

Cassioppi and Warner are gonna be starters together for 3 years don't have to worry about the big guys for a few years

Its just a rumor and possible outcome. Will it happen only time will tell.

I think I remember someone close to him (possibly a coach) that came on here and put that rumor to bed not too long ago. You're right, though. Time will tell as he is a complete stud.

However, it's no secret why Kamal Bey wen the Greco route. Apart from being very gifted at Greco, college just wasn't for him from jump street.

Just a hunch, but I think Kamali has a good pulse on the Teske situation..
Or in order to give Teske the $$ he wants to offset his liking of Iowa(been said he grew up leaning Hawk) they needed to tell Kamali that his original offer was no longer there...

He has absolutley been a HUGE Hawk fan from day one. His whole family is... I do know that ISU and PSU both have offers on the table. So let's call it an "educated hunch".

I sure hope he looks long and hard at Iowa...a fight with Mejia for 33 or I even see Teske being 41

I have a hard time seeing him at 133, but I'm sure people said that about Clark when he was recruited

If all the above is true, why are we even recruiting him hard? If we have holes at 74,84 in the class and potential starters and damn good back ups already signed and/or committed at 125, which is what everyone seems to think he's stuck at...

Kaleb Young isn't going to be a hole, and our 184 was R12 up a weight as a freshman. I want Hidlay, but we could be worse off at those two weights.

I know Young won't be a hole, but what's after him? Who is his back up?

I was talking in planning for the future type guys and having a spread out class weight wise...With Lee, Stickley, Mejia, and more I'm forgetting fairly close grade wise, why take $$ and time on Teske when we could use it on Sasso and Hidlay?

Which may be happening, I don't know...

Who is the 84s of the future? Cash?

Gunther and Wilson

Iowa isn't lacking in time spent on Sasso and Hidlay...
