Our youngest is turning 1 year in about month. We have a pretty big family so we're expecting about 40 people to be in attendance for the little one's party. We did our twins at the in-laws house but want to rent a room at an establishment if possible? Anyone know of any "party venues" available for rent? We've talked to Happy Joes, Godfathers, Zepplins, Bushwood, etc. Just can't seem to get what we want.

Any help is appreciated. TIA

What exactly are you looking for?

Some place where 40 people can show up, eat lunch, open some presents, have cake, sing happy birthday and then get on their way. Say about 2 hours of room rental.

You can rent rooms in US Cell center, very nice. Pricey, but no deal for you I'm sure.

Another option is the Longbranch, they will reserve the back room and have buffet available.

I was going to suggest Longbrach as well.

You could also look in to Leonardo's I know they have a back room as well that they usually block off for birthday party's. Not sure on the capacity of the backroom though. Never hurts to ask.

Third base Brewery has a side room that they might be able to block off if you're bringing that many people.

If you don't really care about the quality of food, Papa Juan's also has a side room that could probably fit 40 plus.

Touch of mink in iowa city is nice and they rent by the hour.

If you're not specifically looking for a restaurant, here's a thought. We have our family Christmas party in the meeting room at Mainstay Suites just off Collins Road. Costs about $180 and we usually have 50 to 60 people of widely varying ages. Have to bring your own food and drinks.

Mainstay

Pizza Ranch usually has a room about that size, and you can hit the buffet.

Fred, you're in CR? That's awesome. 40, huh? That's a helluva lot for a one year old. Leonardos' (probably need to order some pizza), the Ice Arena, the Public Library, one of the Linn County park lodges, some public school cafeteria and gymnasiums, I think AirFX does, but I'm pretty sure SkyZone's is too small, 1st Ave Draught House. You could talk to the Titans/Rampage organization about a game and small room (as was mentioned). Those are some. Good luck, I'll be doing the same search in 6 months.

You might try posting your query on the Cedar Rapids subreddit.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Right now it's between Godfather's and Leonardo's. Both have a room at not cost but I have to buy their food. Godfather's would probably be cheaper but it's over my Town and Country mall and that's on the other side of town from us. I do like Leonardo's red atmosphere and their food is good too.

What's wrong with hosting it at your house?

40 people in our house would make it pretty cramped. We have about 2200 sq ft, but 900 of that is finished basement. We tried our twins 2nd birthday that way, and it just never flowed the way we wanted it to. If I fly the family out to Seattle can we use your house?

I can promise you I easily have enough space for 40-50 people. The problem would be to get the majority of your family members to board a plane for the first time to come out here.

Godfather's does have a location on 16th ave SW too. Tommy's restaurant on edgewood road has a side room. Cooper's Mill downtown would be similar to the Longbranch but may have a location more to your liking. Hiawatha and Palo have community centers available pretty cheap too.

Only the Town and Country location has a "party room"

Not a bad idea and close to our house. Both of our family's are drinkers and I don't think Tommy's serves beer although in order to feed 40 people I do like their prices

I have a voicemail into Longbranch. Would like to use them if possible. I'll check Cooper's Mill. That's a good idea. Right now Godfather's on the NE side and Leonardo's are in the lead but I haven't heard from Longbranch yet.

Well I'll keep your house an option. Thanks SP!! I have a great uncle in the Tacoma area that we don't see enough. He's never met his nieces and nephew before. What a perfect opportunity for him to meet my kids. You're the best, I don't care what jellyfish says about you.

Longbranch is a helluva fine place to be. I've only been there about 3 times but I liked it.

Still need to talk to them tomorrow at noon. I'll probably need to order a bartender through them though to even serve soda. I think they'll allow catering though which we're currently researching.

Wait, are you not allowed to have alcohol at your kids birthday party?

Not allowed? Obviously we're allowed if we decide too. It just won't be a deciding factor on where we choose to host the party. Places like Godfather's will have garbage beer anyways.

When the twins were turning 2 years old, we hosted here at our house. I put 3 coolers of beer, pop, water, alcohol, etc in the garage for people to consume. You'd be surprised how many people don't drink the alcohol at a young kids birthday party. I'm with you in that I prefer to have a few drinks during the festivities.

You'll have to let us know what stephen jr's party is like when he turns 1. It's probably getting close, right?

I tell you what I won't be doing-having it in a crappy chain pizza restaurant while drinking a fountain diet soda. And thanks for remembering junior's birthday date!

It sounds like your 2 year olds' party was decent, and relatively similar to what we are doing. Why don't you trim the invite list a bit and do it like that again?

Forgot to mention the Starlite room.

Came here expecting to see sanctimonious posts from SP on the topic...

...leaving satisfied.

This would fit 40. Also - Parlor City has a nice back room (even SP would like the beers) - Upper level of Bricks is good - Talk to Sag Wagon they might give you the whole place for a couple hours.
*** edit - not sure you can get 40 into Leo's back room

There's something sanctimonious about not wanting to have basement-quality pizza and not wanting to be surrounded by a bunch of cheap dirty strangers while celebrating my child's first birthday?

You can always drink regular fountain soda. That way you won't get the rat poison that diet soda provides.;)

Club Basix will fix you right up.

Some good suggestions here. Butcher Block on Boyson also has a party room.
