Chad Leistikow: "This is no longer KF's offense."

Please no, no, no. That play calling against Nebby was the worst I recall ever seeing. Just keep running up the middle on 1st and 2 down for no gain 100 times expecting for a different result other than getting stuffed each time.

Possible explanations -
1. 4th string QB. Playbook was limited.
2. KJ was the best hope for a big play. It's happened before in games where he was getting stuffed.
3. Trying to shorten the game
This. Especially with a walk-on QB who'd been getting the 1st team reps for just a month and couldn't possibly be expected to know the full playbook without question had a limited playbook to work with. Especially given that, it then logically follows that KJ was our best hope for the big play we'd need offensively. Then limit as much as possible the opportunities Nebraska would have short fields to work with.

While not flawless, Parker's D executed its gameplan as well - they didn't let Nebraska get their big plays that would have forced Iowa to become more aggressive and risk mistakes.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Heard KF say they were going to change the offense in the off season with his son then doubled down doing the same things when Cade was coming to town to save the Iowa offense. He is saying these things to appease the fans and the pressure he is facing for NIL purposes. Lester probably told him he will leave if he doesn’t have total control of the offense. Four years too late.
Do you not recall Hill and an injured Cade playing that season?

This "fan" recognizes that Kirk has done a fabulous job building defensive and special teams staff which is reflected in those results. This "fan" also recognizes that he has failed miserably in doing the same with respect to the offensive side of the program. This "fan" hopes that it has been rectified with the hiring of Lester and that Kirk, in recognition of his own limitations, will afford him the latitude to be successful in that role with minimal influence, because that's what a smart CEO does.
Right on Jonesy👍

Well said, but most CEOs don't take 26 years to figure that out.

What about this season?

Was it not obvious that Iowa was running Lester's offense?
That doesn't mean Kirk isn't making decisions during the game and in the game plan.

The offense was better this year, no Brian was the primary reason

I would certainly hope KF is making decisions during the game and in the game plan.

By no means is he calling many play if any plays. This is real easy, people. Watch KF in between plays. Is he covering his mouth while spitting out long verbiage plays? No. I don't know how anybody could think KF is calling the plays. Have they developed telepathy on the team? If so, KF deserves a lot more credit than he's getting

I’m sure there are times where Kirk is telling Lester if he wants a run called, or if they’re going to go on 4th down, and it’s currently 3rd dow, etc.

I do think after after his experience with Greg Davis, that Kirk was much more involved offensively than he used to be, and Brian was unable/unwilling to tell him to back off.

Lester doesnt appear to have that problem.

I swear these Iowa "reporters" are so bad. Just spout shit with no sources or context. Bunch of amateurs. You'd think that Iowa didn't have a world famous writing department.

Iowa had plenty of time to prepare him to run the offense. You don't need a tremendous amount of time to learn how to hand the ball off or flip it to the right or left. Throw in about 10 different pass plays that are simple and low risk. Iowa had almost none of that. They FINALLY threw a swing pass to KJ that resulted in a TD. Not the brightest play calling even under the QB circumstances. Up the middle, up the middle, up the middle every time was simply asinine.

They had time to get him to run the base offense sure. Did you not see all the play action, motion, etc that got put aside because he wasn’t ready of all of it? Not to mention making sure you’ve got everyone in place, have time to read what the defense was giving you, etc.

Nebraska wasn’t Lester’s best work, anyone would admit that. But at least concede that there’s no college offense you can just throw your 4th string guy in like nothing had changes.

How about going for fourth and one from YOUR OWN 33 in the first quarter and throwing a 65-yard pass to a wide open receiver to set up a TD at the 3 yard line? That's what happened in one of the conference championship games over the weekend. Most teams, including in the NFL, play to win. KF has spent 26 years playing not to lose. You could look it up.

Nebby game, tie score and 4th and 8. Frosty thinks we'll kick and he's consulting with Martinez on the sideline. Instead, Nate Stanley passes to Hockensen for a first down. Next thing you know, walk off field goal. Putting the ball up was risking a turnover but Kirk did it.

The last few years especially Kirk has been far more willing to go for it when needed. He also showed that then he had the best punter in the country and a top 5 defense, it was also not the worst option to be conservative and punt, especially given the train wreck of an offense at the same time.

4th and medium from the 40 with deacon hill vs punt and pin inside the 5? I’ll take the latter.

So would Kirk. But with Hill, I don't think that Debbie Like scenario occurred.
