Chances of beating Wisconsin

If the Iowa offense has a performance like they did against Ohio State, then, not trying to be Captain Obvious, you love their chances at home.

The defense will keep Iowa in games vs lots of opponents. I have zero doubt in my mind Wisconsin will be ready to play. The only question for me is the Iowa gameplan on offense. If they come out trying to stubbornly establish the run like they did vs PSU and go 3 and out early and often, Wisconsin's physicality on offense will wear down the Iowa defense and the score will look similar to last year's game in Madison. Iowa comes out with a creative game plan and breaks tendencies on 1st Down, they have a decent shot.

Will be watching the OL tomorrow. First game both starting OTs were suspended, Last week is their first game and we got a look. Now that everyone can play how does the best five shake out? There has been one game so far to fully figure that out and its hard to believe it is all settled. Lets see what happens vs UNI.

I'd call it a 30-70 game (in terms of probability) ... in favor of the Badgers. However, the odds aren't so bad that the Hawks couldn't pull out a victory.
Agree. Maybe 35-65 cuz of Kinnick, new end zone, wave, water tower, 7:30, etc.

Plus I wore my Hawkeye hat through Madison about 3 weeks ago to jinx them. I’m curious to see if it worked or not!

Been rewatching some games lately. Iowa needs to embrace the college rule of being able to block 3 yds downfield and run some quick passes behind our line appearing to run block. If we do that passes will be wiiiiiiiiidddddeeee open. Wisconsin and ISU send their LBs to fill at the earliest sign of run blocking by our line. Burn their reads up and watch their defense melt.

That’s a weird article in the OP. They spend most of it making the case for Wisconsin to dominate, then they tell you it would be crazy to pick the Hawkeyes, then they pick the Hawkeyes just because. I love it.

31 - 7 Wisconsin. Wisconsin's defense will own Iowa's pathetic offense again. Stanley can't consistently connect with open receivers and the coaches aren't smart enough to try Mansell when Stanley is struggling. Offense gameplan sucks too.

Iowa is at their best when things appear one-sided.

I didn't think they stood a chance against OSU last year, and look what happened.

That said, Wisky should win. They are the more established program, currently. I simply want the Hawks to give themselves a chance in the 4th quarter. Or blow them out.

No way it ends up like that. It’s going to be a one possession game.

One good thing is that Wisconsin has not had to throw the ball to beat any of the weak sisters it's played on its schedule, which is something DiNardo has been squawking about on BTN. They haven't had to, so hopefully they won't need to today against BYU and will have to against us. If we can stop the run, I like our chances against Hornibrook, especially if he hasn't had many pass attempts through 3 games.

Don’t take this the wrong way, Phil has done a very good job (borderline great job), but if Norm was the DC, I wouldn’t be scurred of connie’s run game in the least. I’m still pretty confident we can shut it down and force them out of their preferred scheme.

I’m more concerned that we’ll establish our passing game, which we’ll need to win. Well, unless we can get 2-3 pick sixes early in the game.

He’s an Iowa state troll. Ignore.

Iowa beats Wisconsin this year. 24-20.
I’m an Iowa state troll? How the F is that? I said it will be a one possession game( and of course I am hoping the Hawks are on the right side of the scoreboard.) You state 24-20 Iowa, what’s the difference here?

Also have the feeling Wisconsin will win by 3 TDs. Iowa plays well in underdog role. Lots to prove here.

We usually pull off one inexplicable BIG upset that hurts the conference overall, while losing to Wisconsin, our bitter rival.

Man, I'm glad I won't spend the next week with your mindset about the game. I see this game going a lot like PSU last season. BIG opener at Kinnick, at night against a top 5ish ranked team. On paper, the Hawks should get mauled. The Hawks come out juiced, and play their butts off, especially on defense. We give some yards, but stand tough in the red zone, and hold Wisky to field goal attempts. (Taylor is a stud, but is he better then Barkley?) How many times did he score last year? I'd rate McSorely higher then the badgers QB Hornibrook, and we held him mostly in check until the last play, which was inches from being deflected by Hooker. I imagine we'll still struggle some on offense, just like we did little against PSU until the second half. Even without Wadley, these guys can make enough big plays to pull out a 21-13 type win at home. I'll stick with that until about 9:30 or so next Saturday......

Anyone notice how BYU spread out the sconnie defense on their first scoring drive?

Hope Brian is taking notes.
