What are the chances cunningham goes to be head coach at pitt?? One would think there would be mutual interest there??

Unless Pitt is going to toss a bunch of money at him, why would Cunningham be interested in the job instead of waiting for a major program opening?

1. I've heard they are throwing a bunch of money.
2. The same reason people say Cael went to PSU. The most fertile recruiting ground in the country.
3. There are not going to be any major program openings for at least3 years (probably longer). ISU and Minnesota just got new coaches. Oklahoma got one last year. Cael, Brands, Smith, Ryan aren't going anywhere.

Agree, a good coach is the only thing keeping Pitt from being a major program.

You are correct. I have lots of knowledge of the Pitt program. Pitt has not supported wrestling since the early 60's. In late 60's wrestling got support when they hired Dave Adams in 1967. Pitt had the chance to be great, but they had a major drug problem and lost almost the entire team to drugs and grades. After that no more support. Hopefully, they will do it right now. I have heard that Terry was looked at, but not sure of how hard Pitt looked. The hire should be in the next week. I doubt Pitt will pay the money to do it right.

Probably wont happen but man casey could take momentum and run with it at pitt. Plus i would like to c the train at psu derailed a little bit lol

I will modify your statement by saying that a good coach AND university "all in" to revamp the program (including a RTC) are all that is needed. In fact, the second ingredient is much more important than the first imho. Seeing is believing though.

cunninghman isn't going anywhere. He makes plenty at PSU and they have a heck of a run going there

I think we are all forgetting why asst coaches become head coaches. Or better said WANT to become head coaches. And it's not just about money. They want to be tested. They want to see if they can do it on their own. And maybe just maybe Cunningham needs something besides the comfort of working under Cael at the current best program in the country.

He will most likely leave because he wants the thrill of running his own program. Right now he gets credit for what? I mean we all give him credit for being a key recruiter and working with the middle weights because of his size proximity. But ultimiately, at the end of the day, when people look at PSU and its current success, it's all about Cael and as much as the insiders may say that Cunningham is an extremely important cog in the machine, he probably wants his name at the top of the program.

I don't want to put words in his mouth, and as we all know, there is a long history of great assistant coaches working under long time successful head coaches. Just look at Joe Pa and his asst coaches(some of them for 20-30 years). And there are also a larger chunk of asst coaches that don't want the pressure, or even the figurehead job of being a head coach as it takes away from what they love(working with the kids)

I don't know where Casey falls, but it would be interesting to watch if he were to take it.

Would be great for us and him. I don't care what anyone says Cunningham is the developmental talent at PSU and losing him would leave a mark.

I'd say Kolat to Pitt, because I view CC almost like Terry. Good $$$, no administrative headaches, and less pressure.
Kolat would be an awesome hire for Pitt. That's the best thing they could do realistically
