Christmas Eve dinner?

We always do Christmas dinner with my in-laws, at their house. Variety of things, from Golden Corral...pot roast, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, mac & cheese, and bourbon chicken with rice. Usually a chocolate cake and a carrot cake. Yeah, it's Golden Corral - but my wife's mom is an awful cook, so it beats the hell out of what a home-cooked meal would be.
Ain't gonna lie, I always thought Golden Corral was shite until I had it about ten years ago with my mom (no pic). Solid. Went again about six months ago here in KC and it was even better. I could just pull a chair up to the fried chicken/fish/shrimp section and be satisfied.

Their fried chicken is damn good - way better than any chain chicken places & only topped in my area by a couple of soul food mom&pop joints.

Yup, being from Iowa and having easy access to delicious broasted chicken makes me a little picky about it. Stroud's is a famous fried chicken place here in KC and IMHO, it is pretty overrated. $20 for a 3-piece dinner. Granted, the sides are good, but I'm there for the chicken. I typically go the soul food route. We have a Gus's and a few local joints that are very good and much less expensive.

Turkish coffee and solyanka to end the day..

Brined and smoked a turkey breast, and it turned out nothing short of amazing. Middle child went for fourths, and her diet consists of cereal and ramen noodles. I call that a win. Oh, we also had ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, and homemade buns.
