CJ Fredrick commits

Or paying his own way for a year and Fran paying Connor's way all 4-5 years. Could take a 2019 scholarship.

I've thought for awhile that BE may graduate and look to start somewhere else. Just a thought. Have to believe the coaches know someone isn't coming back though.

Here is a highlight from the Indiana rivals site. It appears that CJ's offer came from the previous IU coaching staff.

Definitely a shooter. Passes the ball quickly and well. Obvious question would probably be defense and he is a probable redshirt candidate at his weight. Overall, it looks like a solid commitment and it will be interesting to see how things play out.

I'll keep the speculation train going (listed in order of likelihood IMO)...

1. Ellingson goes the Grad Transfer route (I really hope not as I see him as the first guard off the bench the next two years)
2. Dailey transfers
3. Wagner gives a run at at future in football redshirting against football cap to learn system better, etc for his sr year
4. Williams transfers as he still has the red shirt year for final year at a smaller college to get some meaningful PT his sr yr

I agree with the poster who suggests that Conner will never consume a basketball ride. Fran will use every legal advantage he can to get as many valuable players as possible. This commitment certainly suggests that basketball will be priority #2 for Conner.

Well..., this is a big..., huh?!?

SG is odd, given what we have already and Wieskamp already in the class, but offers from Indiana, Xavier, etc and a rising top shooter, maybe if they want to commit, you figure out a way to make it happen

Fran might see him as another Bohannon. His recruiting profile says he can play point or SG. Brian Snow with Scout referred to him as one of the best pure shooters in the country.

Got to think a transfer is being anticipated. But is it possible Frederick (or someone else) redshirts, Connor stays off scholly, and still keep everyone? I've got to feel like if that's possible, Fran will float it as an option until a transfer actually happens.

Im now recalling CW saying this summer that the staff was moving him more to the wing. I guess that would open up a need if taken literally and put CW, Ellingson, Moss, Wieskamp, and Dailey in direct competition for SG minutes.

Makes the " No way AJ Green's coming to Iowa...No scolly...end of story " posts/comments inaccurate??? I guess I'll wait and see why we're passing on a top 100 instate kid and taking a guy in the 300s instead...

Yeah, because those subjective rankings on kids coming out of their sophomore years of HS is how we should recruit and run the program.

And that's the only thing that stood out there to you? You want me to say a player who's been evaluated nationally much lower than the kid in our own back yard so you'll comprehend the point!

How would Frederick redshirt? If no one transferred, there would not be a scholarship for both Wieskamp and Frederick even with Conor not getting on. It's not a stretch to think someone moves on this year as someone is not going to be playing very much.

It's not how you said it, you can say it 100 different ways, don't matter. You're putting your faith in the rankings services, rather than the coaches. If they had a legitimate opportunity to pick between AJ or CJ, and they chose CJ, why not be stoked CJ chose to accept. 2019 is still a ways off, coaches clearly see something, and early offers from Indiana, Xavier, Iowa, etc is an indication the kid has some talent.

I was just speculating if it would be possible to have 13+ if only 13 were non-redshirted. Probably not legal.

Concerning Frederick's size, when we first started recruiting him, I thought he had grown a few inches, maybe as much as 6'5"?

AJ Green other offers- Minn, ISU, Virginia, Clemson
CJ Frederick other offers- Penn St, Xavier, prior Indiana creaning staff-no commitable offer.

Water under the bridge now, but you can't deny one scratching their head a bit with this verbal knowing Green was out, no scholly...which we know now isn't true and Green's still uncommitted. I hope CJ ends up better than most scouts think he is just like every Hawk fan.

It's been stated by multiple posters, some with UNI ties, that the Iowa Staff reached out to Green multiple times and Green has no interest in playing basketball for IA - wouldn't even return the IA staff's calls. It's also been mentioned that Green's dad, a UNI assistant coach, dislikes the IA program.

It is a two way street, the recruit has to show some interest before extending an offer. There is no way Green was coming to IA - not because IA wouldn't have taken him or they didn't have a scholly available. It was because Green wasn't interested.

Again, all second hand but it's been stated by multiple posters. Seems legit to me.

Wow! Talk about a surprise. :) This is an interesting get from several angles. But all I have is speculation and I prefer to be in the audience for this one until more info comes out. I'll just say Fran knows better than any of us about who and what is going on, out, up or down, or sideways, on his team. Trust him.

One thing is for sure the kid can flat out shoot.
