CJ got his chance to show what he could as a starter. 49ers management decided to trade for NE's back-up to be future starter. Sad for CJ but he will be a back-up in NFL.

It's way too early to count him out. Not many rookie QB's start in the NFL. Garoppolo has thrown a grand total of 94 passes in his entire NFL career, 3 seasons.

I agree...its too early to count him out. I lol at these people thinking a guy from Eastern IL with 2 NFL starts is a game changer.

Way too early to make that kind of pronouncement. Losing the starting job may be a blessing in disguise. A lot of good quarterbacks lost their confidence playing on really bad teams as rookies...and never recovered.

He'll stick around and could very well emerge later.

I could see CJ track the same as Cousins. KC had 9 starts in his first 3 years. It will depend on if the 9rs can build an offensive line - then receivers. CJ will be needed no doubt. Garrapolo had a great college career and is arguably is closer to being ready than CJ due to more time in the league. The history of NE backups suggest he may struggle. As a fan of CJ it will piss me off if they sit Garrapolo the rest of the year and use CJ as Bantha poodoo behind that craptastic oline.

Keep in mind, Garoppolo is a free agent after this season.

Besides, there are worse jobs than a backup NFL QB.

Good point...didn't know JG was a FA. This is likely his audition for a new contract. Interesting on the Pat's end. With an agingTom Brady one has to wonder what their QB strategy is...are they going to sign Hoyer?

Yeah, a guy from Easterm Illinois could never be a game changing QB.

Signed,

4x Pro Bowler Tony Romo
