I’m not making excuses but it is very evident that we miss CJ dearly on defensive end and offensive end!! But this team needs to finish games and put teams away when they have opportunities. FRAN HIRE A DEFENSIVE MINDED COACH!!

I thought last year CJ was the key player on the team and it's carried over. In addition to playing better D than the rest of the starters, he's the most accurate 3 point shooter, can actually drive the basket, and most importantly is always the guy that ends the other teams' run before it gets to 8-10 points and flips momentum. His only real flaw is occasionally getting into foul trouble in the first half or missing a few too many free throws when pressure gets tight.

Hes the best defender of the starters and best shooter.

He adds an element of spacing that helps cover up the fact that Connor doesn't need to be defended from anywhere.

CJ's recurring lower leg injury is what concerns me most about his future. Look at Bohannon after two hip surgeries. He's definitely slower with even less lateral quickness. It's a shame, but hell he's a fifth year guy. CJ may never have a full season.

It's obvious that the chemistry among the starters has been seriously disrupted with CJ's absence,.. Problem started out as a change in talent issue but it's becoming a confidence issue...

I think it's hilarious that there are fans that think McCaffery and his staff don't work on defense. Maybe some of the players just aren't up to the task of getting it done in the B1G.

That's totally fair. But then doesn't it fall back to Fran for bringing players who can't play defense?

Gotta agree with you. You can't teach speed or quickness. Unfortunately most of these guys just don't have that.

That still is on Fran for though for not getting or not playing guys that do.

Yes getting heathy CJ back would be great. 50% 3pt shooter and he has some ability to dribble drive and finish. Problem is he won't hunt shots, so he might return and be closer to the 8ppg he was trending in last few games before he was injured.

CJ is solid defender, not lock down defender. He looks good because the other Iowa starters aren't very good defenders.

Indiana shot really poorly..maybe our part-time man defense had some effect..still we lost because we didn't get enough loose ball rebounds. JoeT or Ulis would have helped there. Fredrick's shooting likely would have put us over the top.

We are losing by a few points in most of the losses...it just takes a couple more stops and a couple makes and Iowa wins. Fran needs to find something in his rotations to buy us those extra stops and extra makes.

It’s been stated by multiple trusted sources that they work on offense 90% of the time in practices.

Agree with most of this. But even though he doesn't hunt shots his gravity helps space the floor. Teams know they cannot leave him open. Hawks need Fredrick back.

I wish Fran would utilize Nunge differently. There is a lot of court between the 3 point line and the hoop. Nunge can shoot over anybody and has a nice mid-range game. Use him on some pick and pop stuff or get him flashing in the lane so he can catch and go up with a flip shot. Nunge's problems begin when he starts thinking. He should be able to set a screen and release and get an open 15-footer at will but for some reason Fran has him living beyond the arc.
