CLARK WINS

Vall jr. and I went to the ISU dual and while eating dinner, the college girls next to us at the bar at Shorts told us that they were from SE Polk and that Cory had hurt his shoulder, separated it, and that he was trying to get a medical redshirt. At the time, Cory had missed the SDSU dual but I hadn't heard any talk about season ending injury. I was sick to my stomach.

My first thought was that I had separated my shoulder and tried to remember how long until I could move it, move it with strength, move it freely. 6-8 weeks for free movement, never mind strength, was what I remembered. I emailed WWDM and told him I heard bad news and we both commiserated on the lost opportunity.

What I did not do was come to the board to post that Cory had messed up shoulder in the event that he was somehow able to wrestle through the pain and get into an important match where the smallest injury information might be exploited. I also remembered not posting anything during McDonough's SR season, as I was told that Matt had messed up his shoulder days before it was public.

I rarely get injury information so it isn't hard for me to avoid positing about information. But even if I did have a lot of information, I would not want to post it here. It occurs to me that not all of the people on this board are Hawkeye Fans. Some of the people who read / post here root for tOSU, OSU, and even PSU. I also assume that since these fans are rooting for the other teams that Iowa wrestles, that injury information, like McDonough's or Clark's shoulder injuries could be used to another wrestler's advantage.

Therefore, ladies and gentlemen, I implore you: can we please, please, please not post injury information on this board for the public to consume?

And AWESOME JOB, Cory Clark.

Think about where Cory wore his brace and then guess which shoulder had suffered the injury... Plenty of gamesmanship going on in college wrestling.

Tried to come up with a typical long winded post on Cory. I can't because Cory defied my expectations. I did think he could beat NATO but I saw Gross as a buzzsaw on a roll. Hardest path to the title match and then wins it on one arm. Just not enough adjectives to describe it.

Won the whole damn thing wrestling with one arm and lugging two gigantic cannonballs between his legs. I thought DSJ's Jr year and M* his Sr year were the toughest performances recently, but CC takes the top prize as far as toughness goes in my book.

Btw...drinking beers with the HR bros before finals and asked them if they had to bet the mortgage on Clark or Gross, LAX didn't even hesitate...CLARK! It was me waffling.

I can honestly say I've never once in my life shed tears of happiness until tonight. Long time lurker, but I've followed Iowa wrestling avidly since the beginning of the Brands era, and Cory Clark is easily my favorite Hawk of all time. He's a guy who does everything right on and off the mat, and he handles himself with incredible poise at every turn. I'm not necessarily proud to admit it, but his match tonight had me jumping, screaming, and even crying in my living room.

Take away the multiple injuries, and Cory still had perhaps the toughest route to a title of any wrestler in St. Louis, in my humble opinion. Despite that and the physical limitations of not one but two serious injuries to his left arm, he's going out a national champ. As I said, the only memories of the Gable years I have are from YouTube videos of the Brands, Ironside, McIlravy, and the like, but I cannot recall a performance more impressive than what I saw out of Clark this weekend.

It was pretty evident after seeing his interview following the semi's that he was exactly where he needed to be mentally, and tonight it showed. I hope Cory knows just how proud and impressed we all are by what he was able to accomplish.

Vall - When I heard about his injury I was hoping it was possible for some type of waiver/redshirt because I didn't think it was possible for him to compete. I was sick to my stomach. Really amazing how he persevered and excelled.

By the way, got a decent night's rest, woke up this morning, and it still feels good. Big smile for Cory's accomplishment!

Every once in a while we get to witness something that can't adequately be elaborated with words. This was it for me. Speechless. What a fun young man to watch. Congratulations to Cory, his family, his teammates, and all Iowa fans. This was special. And I know, crappy job of elaborating what I saw, but it's all I've got...

I think Terry gave Cory a chance for an exclamation point on his career. The whole audience stunned and thrilled all at once. Great......great.....moment.

Great match, great career, great exclamation point to all the time, effort and hard work.

I like the cheesy look on Terry's face after the throw. Even at the time, I thought, "this is showmanship".

The crazy part is the NCAA knew he was going to win the whole damn thing with one arm. Cory is on all the street banners around the arena and on the cover of the folder everyone got with their program.
Even the psu fans stood up and clapped for him after the match. The cry baby Okie state section not so much.

That will be the most enduring image from these finals, and I love that. The greatest part about this weekend was HOW he won. He simply out worked and out toughed his opponents because he refused to lose. Those headlocks on Tomasello felt like they lasted forever. I didn't think he could hold on, but he just wore him out. Awesome.

Ha! Someone noticed other than me. What a giant group of dick bags.

Just dropped in to say that I was really happy for Clark last night! Hard working senior that comes off as the type of kid anyone would want in their program! He deserved to go out on top and I was glad that despite injury and seriously tough competition he found a way!

Congrats to Clark and all you who've supported him - well deserved!

CC, what to say that hasn't been said. There are so many of us that you do not know, that feel like we know you. We have watched you grow over the years and saw a NCAA Champion in you before you were one. I really believed that Clark could win the title and anything else would be a bust. The path was just as any tough wrestler with huge balls would want. Clark did it, against many odds, with one arm, and most sports analysts had written him off.

Thank you Cory Clark, you are a role model for all!!!

Clark was probably the epitome of a "blue collar" type of wrestler. Many of his opponents were stronger or quicker than him. But they did not have the perseverance and spirit that Cory had. He demonstrated to us all what the "will to win" is all about.

It's ironic that the kid who nearly broke dozens of arms off (according to all the PD calls he got while riding/turning) had to gut through a couple of miserable arm injuries himself. I did not expect him to beat Tomasello (too much strength and skill on leg attacks) and I did not expect him to beat Gross (too much scrambling and riding ability). But he beat both guys at their own game. Awesome
