Coach Bluder

Yes Caitlin is the show (understatement), but I was completely impressed with Bluder’s gameplan, in-game decisions, and play calling. Some examples:

- defensing game plan overall
- the set plays to get the bigs rolling to the hoop
- the end of half play with 4 seconds inbounding to Czinano to Clark to Marshall (it didn’t go in but what a play)
- the decision to stick with Clark when she got her second foul and trust in her to play smart and equally managing Czinano playing time when she had 2 and 3 and 4 fouls.
- late game inbounding plays to get the ball to Clark for FTs.

What else!? Curious what others saw that is worth calling out coaching-wise!? Was a fantastic game by the coaching staff.
Totally agree. ^^ It's not often that a coaching scheme/game preparation is SO GOOD that you can see it and feel it during the game, but last night, last night...it sure was.

I was super impressed with the job that the coaches did, just phenomenal IMO. AND...because they are such good coaches all of the rest of the time...the players were obviously well schooled and confident in the game plan.

Early in the game, I saw Clark wave her hand somewhat dismissively at the SC player that hung out around the 3 pt line, as if to signal, "Yeah, no, leave her out there, that's what we want.". Clark remained in position "packed in", down low.

Towards the end of the game that SC player did make a couple of 3's, but the balance of the game was essentially 4 on 5 basketball when SC had the ball. Great coaching there and really good execution too.

Even with that manufactured disparity, SC roasted Iowa on the boards. Had it been 5 on 5...yeah...I think we all be talking wistfully about what a great season the Hawks had this year.

I don't follow women's BB closely, but you are dead wrong. You don't win almost 50 games in a row, mostly by huge margins, if you are not a good team. Sure size is their huge advantage, but that still makes them damn near impossible to beat. They have been a great team for a while.
Impossible to beat, yes. Being big doesn't make them skilled.

Were Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem, etc great players? How many normal sized players (for women 5-8 or less, for men 5-11 or less) are great players? Size is a huge part of the game, and you shouldn't be downgraded because you are big. Zia Cooke looked pretty damn skilled to me, as she carved up Iowa's best defensive player.

Instead of putting down teams your team beat, maybe you should focus on giving your team credit for what they accomplished. People talk about being "poor losers". I was always taught that it is even worse to be a "poor winner".

The players you mentioned had elite skills.

If your game is "Throw the ball in the direction of the basket and then use your height to get the rebound and lay it in" I don't consider that skill. It's like a middle school game between a big and small school where the big school has tall kids.

I think it was absolutely a huge accomplishment for Iowa to win the game. To overcome that size with scheme and skill was amazing and something no one had done for 42 straight games.

Coach Bluder is a great coach and a classy person. She is an excellent ambassador for women's basketball.

Hopefully coach has something cooked up for Reese and also for Poole. Poole is…um…big and shifty/quick, but also a 40%+ 3pt shooter.

Such a quick turn from a late Friday finish and celebration to early afternoon start tmro, it could be tough to implement a ton new.
