Release from Iowa:

UI Athletics Announces Caitlin Clark’s No. 22 Retirement Celebration

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- In a celebration of legacy, achievement and undeniable impact, the University of Iowa Athletics Department has announced plans to retire the iconic No. 22 of Hawkeye women's basketball legend, Caitlin Clark, during a ceremony scheduled for Feb. 2, 2025, inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

"I'm forever proud to be a Hawkeye and Iowa holds a special place in my heart that is bigger than just basketball,” Clark said. "It means the world to me to receive this honor and to celebrate it with my family, friends and alumni. It will be a great feeling to look up in the rafters and see my jersey alongside those that I've admired for so long."

Clark will be in attendance for the game against USC on Feb. 2, 2025. Tipoff is set for 12:30 p.m. (CT) and the contest will air on FOX and the Hawkeye Radio Network.

“Caitlin Clark has not only redefined excellence on the court but has also inspired countless young athletes to pursue their dreams with passion and determination,” said Beth Goetz, Henry B. and Patricia B. Tippie Director of Athletics Chair. “Her remarkable achievements have left an indelible mark on the University of Iowa and the world of women’s basketball. Retiring her number is a testament to her extraordinary contributions and a celebration of her legacy that will continue to inspire future generations. Hawkeye fans are eager to say thank you for so many incredible moments.”

Gotta say: perfect date (2.2), perfect opponent (JuJu Watkins), and perfect stage (FOX national game).

Hopefully Iowa WBB can get the W too to make it a completely perfect day for the program.
And better odds to beat the opponent than against say UCLA.

Question will be, does it inspire Watkins to go off in CHA, or does it inspire the Iowa team to rise to the level of the guest of honor.

Sure would be a nice day for a W.

Incredible list. Even more so is the FACT that she did NOT win the Staley award as the best point guard her senior year after winning it the first three years, (the only three time winner). Statement by Dawn on that one??

Just a thought. Could you put a list together of all known Iowa recruits and put your percentage of likelihood of the ladies committing?

Probably the same type of reasoning one gives to not vote CC as the Rookie of the Year.............none given

There are people complaining that Iowa picked the same date that South Carolina is retiring Aja Wilson's jersey. It never ends.

Curious if the "22" court tattoo is a permanent thing? I think they had to get permission to do it, but it's still there this season, right?

That was crazy that CC was national player of the year, led the nation in both scoring and assists, but did not win point guard of the year. However, IIRC, Dawn Staley doesn't select the winner of the Dawn Staley award...or at least that is what people were saying last spring.

I'm not buying that Staley has no input. She may have a selection committee , but I'll bet she has a vote. Whoever decided is either Blind, deaf and dumb, or they were making a statement. Staley made some comments after CC22 swept ALL the awards as a junior, that other players should be recognized as well, and not just one player. I think its clear that was the main reason Clark didn't win it as a senior. There is no argument to be made that she wasn't the best guard in College last year. None. It as bad as ESPN trying to prop Reese up in the ROTY race. There never was a race, and thats clear....

Yes, its still in the spot where she hit the record breaker.. I believe they've already had to replace it because it wore off from so many visiting and Iowa players, (mens and womens) trying to shoot from there in warm ups and practice.....
