Is this normal to do this kind of thing? Shouldn't that be a team point. Can some one who ref's tell me what they think of that ? I have helped run many novice pee wee tournament and have never even seen a dad coaching a 5 year old have so little self control.

Who says pee wee just weird, anyway Terry was just reminding the ref to pay attention and that Sam had already had his morning stroll so look closely because he is now getting down to business.

I am as big of a supporter of the Brand's brothers and Hawkeye wrestling for 40 years... But to not acknowledge that this was an egregious violation of the rules is simply putting your head in a hole.
I love their enthusiasm, but their are limits. Those limits are in the rules. If you can't follow the rules, find new employment.
There will be a response from the Big 10 and the University on this similar to what Jimmy Z went through.
Simply put he broke two rules, you can't touch the ref and he left the bench area and went to the mat.
I like Terry, but as was said he needs to practice self control.
Thus ones on him...

Seems like a “lesser” infraction by one of our “assistant” football coaches and a profanity laced tirade in front of reporters and a full press box earlier this year.

It was deemed unacceptable and he was reprimanded by the head coach and had to meet w the AD. Bad Terry control your emotions and move on!!! Nice troll job though....

First off, I very much like your handle. Second, I have to part company with you on the "egregiousness" of the momentary touching of the ref's back. It was only stupid b/c he risked a team point for something so trivial. I agree with you on the self-control point.

yes, it's normal .... buh-bye

Where would the conversation be today had the ref called the wrestlers out of bounds or not called the fall and instead we had lost the dual.? According to complaints on this forum the ref made many non-calls on the side of the mat or stalling calls so at least he called this one right.

When officials meet with the teams before the duals this year they're supposed to tell the coaching staff to stay off the mat and in there area. It's supposed to be a point of emphasis this year.

This is all true enough -- but a troll thread isn't where I'd want to make the point.

I wished he would have goosed J.R. earlier (like sometime during 133 or 141), but it ended up being perfect timing when we needed it the most.

I don’t know what’s more surprising - a Penn State fan trolling on an Iowa board or a nittany lion being in a leadership position around young pee wee boys. I guess if you think about it neither is surprising.

I think it is now encouraged to

I think a PSU coach or Booster should never be allowed near young boys.

So everyone from PA is a Penn State fan ? So the people on this board calling me stupid names are Proud of Brands acting that way ? Is that what you want Iowa to be? Really sad.

The faithful have already commented on many other threads. Why don't you read them instead of starting your own thread about it. What IS sad is that you have nothing better to do than to come to this board hoping to shame us because we're Hawkeye fans.

Whatever - I'm sure everyone from PA is a fan of JoPa turning his back

there's also 'bitch'... but then that seems accurate too

I think both are after the fact. After he posted his whine...........

3 recent things I have not liked and need to be addressed by an actual competent AD.

1. Terry poking a ref. This cannot happen again
2. Tom sending Gilman to talk in front of a crowd like that representing the university.
3. Terry wearing a green sweater at the Iowa duals. Good lord, isn't there a required dress code for coaches and athletes. Tom cant give Terry a Nike Pullover? Not a big deal but attention to detail. Makes me wonder what else they are to dense to see.

They are making it easier for me to want a change. I understand a rebuilding year and how we are setting up the future but these moments raise some red flags about leadership that have nothing to do with coaching but everything to do with being the CEO/ Face of a major program. IMO this hurts recruiting more than a guy like me complaining on a board.

PA poster upset about assistant coach poking fully clothed adult referee in back with finger. Too funny - can't make this sh*t up.

I had parents telling their son to rip my sons arm off. I think they thought is was WWE. Since my son was winning easily I just shook my head. Later the ref had to explain to them that wasn't appropriate. I would bet you would get some good stories about parents coaching here.

I ran the largest youth wrestling organization in New Jersey for several years, and was on the committee that ran the state's largest youth wrestling league. I then reffed a couple of years. I have some pretty funny stories -- but I have to tell you I probably have more positive stories than bad ones. You just tend to tell the bad stories more often, because they're more entertaining.

LOL the green sweater makes you feel like we need a change?

If that's what you got out of the whole post than sure buddy. Id hate to ruin your funny moment.

Attention to detail and doing the little things right. If you are coaching an Iowa team in any sport, unless you are in a suit like Fran or coaching in the finals, wear Iowa gear. It was embarrassing, but Terry tops that with poking refs. He either needs to get a hold of himself or sit in the stands or stay in the warm up area. If Barta wasn't so incompetent himself he would have addressed this. Of course if Barta paid attention to detail there would have been correct documentation to support the university's side in that suit. Human Resources, whats that?

Just for clarification, is the problem the color of sweater or that he was wearing a sweater? Would a gold sweater have been appropriate in your eyes?

Follow-up question, do you pay attention to the fashion of our coaching staff and those of our opponents at other wrestling meets? More often than not the coaches are wearing sweaters, suit jackets and other 'nice' clothes.
