Coaches Getting Mad

Nope, but donors and fans will put up with that kind of embarrassing crap if they are winning. Fran is both an embarrassment and has been a below avg coach for most of his time at Iowa.

Based on your responses, it sounds like you want Fran gone. I dont blame you, but wont necessarily would go that far.

Fran has been great for Iowa, both of you are dumb posters.

So officials don't blackball players? You know damn well they do.

Izzo can be essentially on the court during play and nothing done. Fran? T

proof ? asking for a friend . lol

A lifetime of experience. Have watched it happen

As for the Fran vs izzo thing? Common sense. Without looking I can guarantee which coach has more technical fouls. So can everyone. Izzo doesn't have better behavior. He just isn't held to the same standards

This rant was not by a coach, but it is a classic rant at the ref's.

No one will ever make me believe that officials, either consciously or unconsciously, have coaches, and even players, that they dislike and these emotions affect their calls (or non-calls). They are human beings (at least, most of them).

Your right he must have gotten paid off by Ohio State. And when calls go Iowa’s way at home, Barta is paying off the refs. It’s a full blown conspiracy. There is money changing hands everywhere, but mostly when Iowa gets beat. Do I have this right?
Yep...somebody paid the refs so OSU could get in the tournament.

Any examples of a coach calling an official a mother f’er to his face and not getting tossed?

That’s completely different than just general swearing.

WAit, what? Coach K literally called a coach a cocksucker on National to a couple weeks ago.

The holier-than-thou attitudes on here are cute. Put anyone on here in a college basketball coach's shoes, and let's see how they react to the abysmal lack of fairness in a fast-paced, no appeal option, immediate reaction sport. Give me a break. Nobody on here would behave significantly differently than Fran. Even mild-manner Tom Davis went after officials often, but his small stature and "gentlemanly" perception made those incidents go virtually unnoticed.

Fran was wrong. His choice of words was horrible. But let's stop pretending it's more than what it is.

Don't you know the things that doctors, lawyers, judges, professors, politicians, and business people say when they get upset? Don't you know the language they use? People on here have no excuse for being so naive or so self-righteous.

I actually no problem with what Fran did. It happens regularly, it just usually doesn’t get overhead by reporters and if they do they don’t publish it. I’d rather have him go after a ref after the game then get two T’s during the game.

I completely disagree. What you say may well be true for most, but certainly not all referees. If what you say is true then explain why teams get more calls at home than on the road? This is almost universally true.

Exactly right. Home court advantage doesn’t exist because of student sections or downtown arenas. It’s because of the refs. If refs werent subject to influence the location of the game would not matter.

I've been thinking a lot more about this recently and I have to agree. When we're on the road and the ref blows a call in our favor, it almost ALWAYS evens out with a ticky-tack call on the other end. The same doesn't apply when the ref blows a call in the home teams favor. That's the true home court advantage. In terms of shooting %, 4 of the top 10 games were on the road whereas 3 of our worst shooting games were at home. It comes down to calls.

I think this is universal, not just applicable to the hawks. Great teams overcome it. Okay teams dont.

Laugh it up. I played division one athletics. I know lots of people that played at that level and a few that played professionally. Know lots of refs.

Ever been in around officials over a beer? They will tell you the same thing I am saying. Officials are.just people and have the same exact issues in their profession that exists everywhere else.

Give izzo a T? You better be spot on with that. Lots of ways for a guy like that to end a career.

Go ahead a Google the little speech izzo gave about officials after one of his game last year. He is highly critical and very.few.other coaches would get to say what he is saying. Where are the fines? Where is the outrage that he publicly spoke out about the officiating?

wow i am shocked at all the people on this site that are connected to people that know so many people in the know . it is truly amazing and the majority were D1 players , wow .

Also Dakich sticking up for Fran. Gotta admit I agree with him. If this

happened at Carver we would've never known because usually reporters build up a certain level of trust with coaches. The "Toledo Star" guy jumped on this because his twitter doesn't get a lot of eyeballs. He tweeted about this several times over the ensuing days. Big weasel move in my opinion.

Of course they're human, that's why it's darn near impossible for them to have biases, whether conscious or not. I'm forgetting the name of the referee that did the Iowa/MSU b10 tourney game a few years back - where an Iowa win would likely have meant an NCAA bid in year (was it 2nd or 3rd) for Fran. MSU guards virtually manhandled Gesell/Clemmons without penalty. A year or so later, Iowa requested that guy not officiate any more Iowa/MSU games I believe.

Coaches aren't stupid. The great ones like Izzo or Coach K cultivate relationships with the officials, especially ones they will see regularly. This allows them to "work" them during games and stand a better chance of influencing them during the game. To Fran's detriment, this is not something he's been particularly good at.

The people on here that gets pissed at Fran for going after referees are the same people that gets pissed at Kirk for not going after referees.... Message boards and Social Media go hand in hand, a cesspool of a bunch of idiots

No, I dont want Fran gone. I dont really mind what he did. Others have done a heck of alot worse...

I'm old school...today's world is different than when I was growing up, to many folks judge and jump to conclusions and give their opinion to often.

" Hey look at me " and making mountains out of molehills has gone waaaaay too far...just get over it and move on is my advice.

Bout a week later and we're still talking bout it..

.....so, you thought you'd jump right in?

Cool...

Pretty much the exact opposite of when Fran goes off, huh? Google Fran McCaffery-OSU and you’ll see dozens of reports.

Kind of the point here of the double standard.
does not point to anything for me till i know whether it happened or not . could be someones vivid imagination .
