How this game isn't a consistent 2:30pm start time every Black Friday is absurd.
Have an eastern B1G battle at 11am (or goofs vs wiscy like this year). Then have a west coast game at 6:30pm.

Don't get me wrong it'll be cold no matter what Friday, but a night game at the end of November isn't ideal. I'll be there with several layers and heaters.

The wind will be less at night.

Will take the lower temp with less wind 100 times out of a 100.

TV dictates everything now.

Remember when the B1G season would be over before Thanksgiving because of weather (and because there was no B1G Championship game)? Those days are long gone, of course.

And just think if Iowa were hosting a 1st round CFP game next month. Brrrrrrrrrr....

CFP first-round matchups (on campus) will be on Dec 20 and 21.

I'd be so happy to so suffer.

It’s just stupid playing a night game in Iowa after Thanksgiving. And dangerous.

it’s because the greedy NFL couldn’t leave Black Friday alone and had to televise the chiefs vs raiders at 2pm. NBC didn’t want to compete so we got the shaft and stuck with a night game. NFL needs to quit trying to play a game every day and stick to their traditional days and leave college days alone.

I'm aware of TV.
2 B1G games on Friday and then 8 games on Saturday? Seems a little uneven. Spread out the games.
Instead on Friday BTN is showing replays and then a meaningless RU vs Marquette women's game in the afternoon and vb at night.

I see the Raiders at KC is on Amazon Prime....

barf....

Dangerous?

Every NFL team plays night games in December. The body count is pretty low.

pretty sure outdoor NFL fields have heating coils under the turf so the turf does not freeze solid

remember the 2010 Iowa game at Minny? It was the weekend after Thanksgiving. The turf was frozen & an ice rink.

Took a Michigan friend to that game. He had some co-workers that were tailgating down there so we went down early to meet them. But they were in the RV lot, and all of the RV people were in their RVs because it was so freaking cold. He didn't know their phone number so we had no way to find them, so we went across Melrose to grab some food and then went into the recreation building to get out of the cold for a while.

I remember the game.

It was even colder two years ago up there.

It’s going to feel better Friday night than it will Friday during the day. The temperature will be lower, but it will feel better with less wind. I’m from Iowa, I know how to dress.

It is much more dangerous when it’s 97 degrees on September 1st.

crazy he didn't have a phone # to call.....yikes!

Didn't an Iowa RB get hit really hard where he hit the back of his head on the Minny frozen turf and left the game w/ a concussion?

Minny was really hyped for that game and we lost to an interim HC......

in 2002, it was 49 days between Iowa's first B1G game (9/28) and the last B1G game (11/16), and 47 days between that game and the Orange Bowl (1/3). Iowa's bye week was the last week of the season making the break even worse. I still say if Iowa would have played USC on 11/23, we would have destroyed them.

when did the big ten get rid of the no night games after Nov 1st rule?

I agree that it's pretty dumb to host these games this late in the year in the midwest

A media rights agreement that began in 2017 included a formal policy allowing schools to play night games after the first week of November if both schools mutually agreed to move kickoff to prime time.

The media rights agreement beginning in 2023 permitted night games through the season.

Was there. That $hit was cold!!!

Was in a heated tent before that game, our beer was close to the doorway as to keep it away from the heater and ended up freezing. Silly rabbits

Sure, but it feels like everyone complaining about how it’s dangerous means dangerous for the fans, not the players.

I was thinking all outdoor NFL fields in cold weather markets have heaters under turf.

Vikings installed in in gopher stadium

I was going to say that but you beat me to it.

The NFL plays night games through January.

I did read that a few Chiefs fans had to go to the hospital after their playoff game last year that was played in crazy low temperatures (windchill close to negative 30). Of course those fans went to the game with no shirt on so that could have had something to do with it 😂

On a side note: Several Kansas City Chiefs fans suffered frostbite and required amputations after attending the January 13, 2024 playoff game against the Miami Dolphins. The temperature at kickoff was -4°F and the wind chill was -27°F. This made it the 4th-coldest game in NFL history and the coldest in Chiefs franchise history.

Yep, it’s hard for me to justify freezing for a middle of the road team playing for nothing at this point. I sold the tickets and am going to enjoy this one with the fireplace on and the beer fridge stocked.
Kinnick will be 1/2 red as usual. Husker fans do not care about the weather, they show any even when team sucks like this one. It was really cold a decade or so back and more than half was red.

The coldest Iowa game I sat through was the Gator Bowl vs Florida. I don't know what the temperature was, but the wind was unbelievable. They were literally helping some fans, many of which dressed for a game in Tallahassee weather, leave the stands.
As far as Iowa City goes, I remember sitting through a Minnesota game during which a heavy, wet snow fell, blanketing everything and everyone.

That is called stupidity. Probably tailgated for hours before and didn't wear proper clothing. Buy heated clothing.
