This is my first Nebraska Iowa game. I used to always come back to visit family over thanksgiving and come in the Friday before, go to the game Saturday if the finale was at home, and stay around for the week. I always envied the Bama Auburn fans who got to go to that game Thanksgiving weekend. Same with UT/TAMU, Nebraska and Colorado. The Big Ten scheduling was idiotic and the layoffs were horrible for the programs.

My bro and I are taking our boys to their first game in Iowa City. They’re looking forward to bundling up and battling the weather and sitting behind the Nebraska bench listening to the drunken fans berating the bench. Some good clean family fun.

Newsflash: people suffer from hypothermia and frostbite in cold weather. Especially those who have been drinking.
Thank goodness there’s no such thing as outdoor football games in December and January in cold weather cities, especially with people drinking.

Dangerous?

Every NFL team plays night games in December. The body count is pretty low.
Unless your a dumb ass like some Chiefs fans. Game last year had 30 below wind chills and people running around with a lot of unprotected skin. I believe that had around 75 "emergency " calls at the stadium for frost bite and a few folks who later ended up losing fingers or toes. Man is a stupid animal..

Yep.

For one, this won’t be nearly as cold.

Two, if someone gets a “cold injury,” it would bring a tear to Charles Darwin’s eye.

For sure. There may be a few exceptions but the stories I heard were that the people that got into trouble had enough alcohol in their system that they didn’t feel the cold until it was too late. People that were responsible and actually dressed for the conditions were fine.

The one thing I’m a little worried about is sweating on the way to the stadium so I may carry my outer layer and not put it on until I’m at the gate.

smart move with not wearing all of your clothes to avoid sweating I plan on doing that on my walk to the stadium

start 'em when they are young and get 'em hooked. ;)

My toes remember that game every time it gets cold out now. Felt sorry for the students wearing thin North Face jackets and not much else, so my wife gave away her extra blankets and hand/toe warmers in the stands.

No need to dress to impress for cold weather games - break out the cold gear undergarments, Carhart bibs, mad bomber hat, and ice fishing boots and gloves. (black of course)

Go Hawks!

Kinnick will be 1/2 red as usual. Husker fans do not care about the weather, they show any even when team sucks like this one. It was really cold a decade or so back and more than half was red.

Huskers only see red because they suck and its embarrassing. Half Kinnick red, that sounds like B.S.

thread is depressing as hell. makes it look like kf has only suffered embarrassing losses at home in subzero temps. as the reigning kings of november games it can’t be all bad

JFC. Kinnick has never been “1/2 red.” Don’t be stupid.

If Husker fans travel so well, then why is it so rare for Neb to sell out home games (for real)?

Not that I recall, but maybe?

Coker had a million yards, kicked the shit out of Minnesota, and lost. It was embarrassing. Pretty sure Minnesota recovered an onside.

The conditions that caused a frozen field were in the daytime for that game.

Also, I was at the 2013 Iowa v Michigan. It was extremely cold, and I was extremely fine, but I dressed like I was going out the Yukon.

I have felt like I was going to die at a few games in September.
I was at 2010 and 2011 Minnesota games. Both shit shows.

We had plenty of gear and warming stuff, didn’t get cold at all. Tailgated 1-530 at Myrtle and walked over. Tailgate scene was a joke, because for all their bluster and tough guy act, most Iowans are soft as baby shit and scared of the weather just like the rest of the country is.

I feel like it was comfortable in the stadium, I didn’t even wear gloves for most of the game.
