Coldest games ever at Kinnick: 15 degrees in 1896 vs Debbie; 18 degrees in 2013 vs Michigan; 20 degrees in 2024 vs Debbie

TV dictates everything now.

Remember when the B1G season would be over before Thanksgiving because of weather (and because there was no B1G Championship game)? Those days are long gone, of course.

And just think if Iowa were hosting a 1st round CFP game next month. Brrrrrrrrrr....

CFP first-round matchups (on campus) will be on Dec 20 and 21.
NFL fans do deal with it. College fans can deal with it.

It wasnt more than 5-8 years ago or so that the Big 10 was not playing any night games in November

Friday's high is projected to be 24 with it dropping to 15 at night.

Winds are supposed to be around 15 mph.

The game kicks off at 6:30 pm CT on NBC and will be over around 10:00 pm CT

The game you mention was very cold, I was there and it was a rough one. But to me the Purdue game maybe in Brohm's first or second year, 2017 or so was the worst of the over 250+ games I witnessed in Kinnick. The temp wasnt as cold as the 2013 Mich but it was close BUT the wind was stronger and just sucked the heat right out of you. And of course the hawks played poorly that day and Kirk made several very poor coaching decisions which is why I left early for one of the few times ever

Kinnick will be 1/2 red as usual. Husker fans do not care about the weather, they show any even when team sucks like this one. It was really cold a decade or so back and more than half was red.
More than 1/2 red? That is 100% false.

2015 and Pete got pelted by snowballs.

2017 was the wind game. Seems like that was Riley Moss's gettin Moss'd game.

Yep, the Nebby game is a good one to sell tickets for on the after market, price them high because all those Nebber farmers have plenty of cash from all the AG programs. They will spend a lot as will Iowa farmers.

Moss got torched at Purdue in 2018 as a true freshman iirc. But you are correct that one of our starting corners was injured in 2017 and a young backup did get torched for 2 long TD passes by purdue, cant remember the corner's name.

Didn't an Iowa RB get hit really hard where he hit the back of his head on the Minny frozen turf and left the game w/ a concussion?

Minny was really hyped for that game and we lost to an interim HC......
Not that I recall, but maybe?

Coker had a million yards, kicked the shit out of Minnesota, and lost. It was embarrassing. Pretty sure Minnesota recovered an onside.

The conditions that caused a frozen field were in the daytime for that game.

Also, I was at the 2013 Iowa v Michigan. It was extremely cold, and I was extremely fine, but I dressed like I was going out the Yukon.

I have felt like I was going to die at a few games in September.

How this game isn't a consistent 2:30pm start time every Black Friday is absurd.
Have an eastern B1G battle at 11am (or goofs vs wiscy like this year). Then have a west coast game at 6:30pm.

Don't get me wrong it'll be cold no matter what Friday, but a night game at the end of November isn't ideal. I'll be there with several layers and heaters.
Thank the NFL for that.

Ha!

I assume this is a shoutout to those ****ers not calling a single penalty in Minnesota a couple of years ago, and their entire line was bear hugging our D ever. Single. Play.

It worked out.
They couldn't get their whistles to work evidently.

The coldest Iowa game I sat through was the Gator Bowl vs Florida. I don't know what the temperature was, but the wind was unbelievable. They were literally helping some fans, many of which dressed for a game in Tallahassee weather, leave the stands.
As far as Iowa City goes, I remember sitting through a Minnesota game during which a heavy, wet snow fell, blanketing everything and everyone.
The snow angel game?

Minnesota recovered back to back onside kicks in that game. It was pathetic to watch the hawks not be coached up for that game but they were on a bit of a late season tailspin. It also makes you realize why coaches like Bielema knew he could do a fake punt against Iowa.

It's a night game this year? Wack. This game should be played at 11:00 or 14:30. Tired of TV messing with a good thing.

I froze my ass off November 28th 2014 kinnick for Iowa, Nebraska. And then the very next year in Lincoln.I froze my ass off after a big ice storm the day before! We had to bang ice off the bleachers sat in section 600 nose bleeds brutal wind and cold

find a 300 lb fatty who is sportin the melons and use em as earmuffs ( that would be 90% of the Nebraska Male Fan demographic too) , I have little sympathy with over a foot of snow and -20 up here in Calgary

Shouldn't you be in Arizona with the rest of the Hosers playing pickleball?
Half My Family is Iowan, other half from Louisiana so not a true flannel wearing Hoser who cannot say sorry fast enough , It is getting to be deer and moose hunting season up here so no time for teabagging my junk in a pickle jar in Arizona . Sounds weird yet almost intriguing tho , is there rules and how do You win pickleball ? How do You score it? wrinkles or stretch ? . .

Coldest game I ever experienced at kinnick was in the Frank Verducci disgraceful era, when Iowa played Michigan in a freezing sleeting windy cold rain, and got beat 22-0 I believe. That was when the IA locker room was at the other end of the field from where it is now and Verducci caught all kinds of Hell coming off the field at halftime. Miserable.

Obviously y'all play a lot more cold weather games than the SEC teams. However, I thought that is interesting that the coldest Georgia football game in Athens came on November 25, 1950 when 2500 stalwart fans braved a 10 degree kick off to watch Georgia beat Furman 40-0.

I believe that was the day that Michigan beat Ohio State in Columbus in a massive snow storm sending the Wolverines to the Rose Bowl.

What is your problem with farmers? One of them catch you porking one of their pigs?

Yep, it’s hard for me to justify freezing for a middle of the road team playing for nothing at this point. I sold the tickets and am going to enjoy this one with the fireplace on and the beer fridge stocked.

I got a space heater and some vodka. Cheers.

buy heat packs and put one in each sock and in each glove and find that 300 lb fatty , it will be ok . Lots of running in that weather so the clock will be moving

The coldest game at kinnick was Nov 23 2013 michigan. I was there with a friend who had cancer. He was a stubborn tough guy who didnt complain once at that game. The high that day was 17 and it was overcast. Not a single peep out of him about the cold, 34 days later he was dead.
