The senior pastor of Palm View Baptist Church, Jonathan Edward Elwing, was arrested on June 21 for possession of child pornography. The 18 felony counts against Elwing stem from explicit photos of minors that detectives found on his phone.
On June 20, detectives received information that Elwing used cryptocurrency to make an online purchase of child sexual abuse material. On June 27, as the investigation continued, 14 additional felony charges were filed against Elwing: two counts of Capital Sexual Battery, six counts of Production of Child Sexual Abuse Material, and six counts of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material.
A forensic search of Elwing’s cell phone revealed images of him sexually battering a child along with the production and possession of 12 images of child pornography.

A convicted felon-turned-pastor in central Florida is accused of supplying a teenage girl with an alcohol-infused slurpee and marijuana-laced gummy, while he repeatedly sexually assaulted her.
William Martinez is charged in Hernando County Court with two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior of a victim over 12 and less than 16, and two counts of sexual battery familial/custodial of a victim over 12 and less than 16. Martinez, 55, is a married pastor at Kingdom of Hope Ministries.
According to an arrest report, the teenager’s body tested positive for semen and her urine tested positive for THC, the main ingredient in marijuana. Martinez spent 20 years in prison for armed robbery and trafficking in cocaine.

North Carolina Pastor Indicted On 19 Child Sex Charges​

A pastor of a Brunswick County church faces multiple counts in a child sexual offense case.
On July 8, Jonathan Ballard, pastor of Straightway Ministries Wilmington and Church of the Living God in Leland and Whiteville, was indicted with 12 counts of taking indecent liberties with children, six counts of statutory sex offense, and one count of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to a first appearance in New Hanover County Court Friday morning.
Four victims, including one who has since deceased, have come forward, Jason Smith, assistant district attorney representing the state in the case at Friday’s first appearance, said. The alleged abuse occurred between 1995 and 2019 across multiple counties.

A Lenawee County minister was arraigned Monday afternoon in Lenawee district court on two criminal sexual conduct charges following his arrest Saturday.
The second-degree felony charges against Michael Ronald Goble filed in 2A District Court specify victims younger than age 13 and that the specific offenses occurred in November, 2021, court records show.
But a statement from Adrian police said more charges are likely forthcoming, with potential locations of significance including the Maurice Spears Juvenile Campus, Church of the Good Shepherd, and Mr. Goble’s home.

Just over a week after former Executive Pastor Zachary King was charged with the rape and sexual abuse of a minor, LexCity Church in Lexington, Kentucky, has permanently shuttered because it wouldn’t be “financially viable” to continue.
“Today we are writing a letter that no leadership team desires to write. Through thoughtful prayer and heartfelt tears, the leadership team of Lexington City Church has voted to permanently cease our ministry,” the church said in a statement on its Facebook page Wednesday.
“Due to the continued effects of the financial situation our church inherited several years ago and the impact of the ongoing investigation of a former staff member, we have lost the ability to remain financially viable and fulfill our God-given mission.”

Alabama Youth Pastor Arrested On Child Rape Charges​

On Tuesday, 39-year-old Terry Murphree of Oneonta was booked into the Blount County Jail on the following charges: first-degree rape, sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old, nine counts of Clergy-sexual intercourse with a child, electronic solicitation, human trafficking, traveling to meet a child to perform a sexual act, three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree attempted sodomy.
Muphree, court documents filed Wednesday allege, abused his position as a youth minister to repeatedly assault the girl inside of “a church, in the defendant’s home, and in the child’s home.” Murphree also allegedly contacted the girl via text and Snapchat in order to request nude photographs and videos, threatening to “kill himself and his wife” if she did not send them, according to the complaint.

New Jersey Pastor Arrested On 21 Child Sex Charges​

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 74-year-old STEPHEN E. SWEET, a church pastor, who resides in Paramus, NJ on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated criminal sexual contact and criminal sexual contact. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck.
On Thursday, July 11, 2024, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit was contacted regarding the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile that occurred in the past. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that STEPHEN E. SWEET committed various acts of sexual contact and sexual assault on multiple occasions over the course of several years when the child was between the ages of 13 and 18 at locations in River Edge, Paramus, and Ridgewood, NJ.

Sweet is pastor of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in River Edge. He was ordained and installed in 1997, according to the church website. A woman who answered the phone at the church Friday said there was currently no one available to comment on the arrest or charges.
Sweet is charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, 10 counts of second-degree sexual assault, three counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, three counts of third-degree criminal sexual contact, and three counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact.

Sweet’s photo and bio remains on the church’s website at this writing. He remains jailed as of this afternoon.

Lawsuit: Megachurch Staff Covered Up Child Sex Abuse​

A lawsuit filed against MorningStar Ministries earlier this month accuses founder Rick Joyner [photo], along with several top officials of the organization and multiple other staff members, of gross negligence for allegedly engaging in the cover-up of multiple incidences of sexual abuse in the ministry.
The lawsuit names as defendants: Joyner, MorningStar Fellowship Church, Joyner’s second in command David Yarns; the former volunteer, Erickson Douglas Lee; the volunteer’s father and MorningStar Fellowship Church’s head of security, Douglas Lee; Erickson Douglas Lee’s assistant, Chase Portello; along with unidentified defendants.
In his statement this week, Joyner revealed that the family of one of four teenage boys alleging the former volunteer sexually abused them had filed the lawsuit against the church.

Records show a Cornelius police officer arrested for child sex-related crimes was also a church youth leader. According to his arrest warrant out of York County, the allegations against Erickson Douglas Lee were for incidents reported between December 2020 and January 2023.
Deputies said Lee is accused of committing a sex act with a victim less than 16 years old, and said it allegedly happened 30 times in a 1.5-year period.
Warrants reveal the same thing happened to at least three more victims at his home from August 2021 until this January. Investigators said he was their youth leader as well.

Joyner has appeared here multiple times over the last decade, perhaps most notably in 2013 when he prayed for God to cause the US military to overthrow President Obama.
In 2017, he appeared here when he declared that hurricanes are “clearly” caused by the sin of abortion.
That same year he also claimed that God sent hurricanes to destroy Key West and New Orleans for the “perversion” of homosexuality.
In 2020, Joyner contracted COVID after declaring that Christians can ward off infection simply by asking Jesus.
In 2021, Joyner appeared here when he said that Jesus told him that Christians need to arm themselves and join militiasto prepare for the coming civil war.
And let’s not forget the time that Joyner claimed Jesus teleported him to a spot two hours away by car because he had trouble driving due to knee surgery.

OK Pastor Arrested On Child Rape And Incest Charges​

Tulsa’s Fox affiliate reports:

A Tulsa pastor was arrested and charged with rape, child sex abuse and incest. He just resigned from his church over the weekend. According to an affidavit, Bertheophilus Maurice “Judge” Bailey Sr. began sexually assaulting his victim when she was a child. It went on to say the abuse got worse as she got older.
Until recently, Bailey was a reverend at St. Andrew Christian Church near 36th Street North and M.L.K. in north Tulsa. According to an affidavit, the abuse took place at home and started when the victim was in sixth grade.
Court records say, “It began with the defendant praying over (her) body and touching her.” Investigators said Bailey confessed to watching pornography involving incest and said, “he felt justified in acting out what was shown in the pornography because ‘it was what people do’.”
