Face it - Our conference officials tend to let us play rough and rowdy during the men's regular season. And then it's often a rude awakening when post season play starts, and we're penalized for that same aggressive style of play. I can remember how closely the refs often call the early NCAA games, and how the ticky-tacky touch fouls mount up against us early on. Will our teams be able to adjust this year?

LO-freaking-L at the thinking that officiating is going to be ANY different in the Big Dance than it was in conference play. It'll be the same, but even more so.

That's what happened last year, anyways. If anything, teams were allowed to play even more of the 'bully-ball' defense in the NCAA Tourney than was let gotten away with in the B1G.

I’ll eat my words but 9 teams in, we’ll be lucky to get 2 to the second weekend. The teams just look collectively average.
Based on projected seeds, we would only be predicted to have 2 teams in the Sweet 16. If Indiana slips to a 5, it would be down to only 1 B1G team in the second weekend, if it goes according to chalk.

Maybe its just based on 'name brand', IE money - but hard to believe that 8-9 (maybe possibly even 10??) teams would be getting invites if the general thought is that the B1G was just really bad or mediocre this season.

Could be the big teams are decent top to bottom and just beating up on each other in big play, other teams around the country have problems too. Quite a few lower seeds for the big so going to be hard to get a bunch in the sweet 16 with potential of playing pretty high seeds.

Just don't be concerned read a book

The Big Ten is no more or less physical than most of the top conferences. And there’s no such thing as Big Ten officials. These guys work all games. Big 12 is crazy physical. Big East is physical. Good teams that play physical win. Plain and simple.

It's just the opposite in the tournament.

I keep seeing this said, but the Big 12 is much more physical league, and it hasn't hurt them in the tourney recently.

If bracket matrix is to be trusted at all, the Big 10 will struggle IMO just as much due to the seeds. A ton of 7-10 seeds there. Those second round upsets can happen but they are just a lot less likely. Big 10 will sneak some teams through to the second weekend simply on numbers.
