Along with my cupcake non-conference schedule rant, I also hate the way the B1G realigned the conference.......to put Ohio State, Michigan, and Sparty in the same division was ridiculous. I wish they would have put at least Ohio State or Sparty in the west and maybe Purdue in the East (I understand they wanted to assure that Ohio State and Michigan played every year).......In my opinion, Iowa should play at least one of the 3 above teams EVERY year.......the fact that they avoided all three last year until the conference title game to me was inexcusable imho.......

I can understand the geography behind the idea. Our legends division for that stint was pretty salty... All the m and n's and iowa. I think osu and mich stayed as protected crossover there too? Liked those team setups but hated the division names.

Problem is assuming all 3 u mentioned will be good each and every year. In last 10 years mich had been down and osu albeit very rare has down times. And we have seen an up psu and even good purdue. Just hard to gauge them when setting up conf.

So they went geography route... Not sure how they do determine crossover games tho?

Just wait a couple of years and we'll play all of them. When were finished doing that you may wish we didn't ever play anyone in the East.

Not sure why it matters. The schedules will go in cycles and there will be years were we play all 3 of them.

Besides, CFB teams change and I dont expect MSU to be where they are for much longer. All it takes is Dantonio to take a SEC job or die on the sideline.

I think it matters because it would have been nice to have at least one of those teams on their schedule last year before the B1G championship........

When they first expanded to 14, I was hoping they would just add Rutgers and Maryland to the Leaders and move Wisconsin to the Legends. Of course that would've posed another problem - The Leaders would have been Ohio St and the 6 dwarfs, with every other quality program in the other division. Moving Illinois instead of Wisconsin would have evened things out some, but Wisconsin being separated from Iowa and Minnesota must not have gone over well for the first 3 years. It's hard to see the West being truly competitive with the East (at least at the top) anytime soon, but at least the Hawks will have a puncher's chance at the division title on a regular basis, even in years that start like this.

Originally, MSU requested to be the eastern time zone team put in the west. However, Wisconsin & Michigan blocked the move for different reasons. Wisconsin wanted the easiest path to a division title & Michigan didn't want MSU as a permanent crossover opponent. Purdue ended up being the compromise pick.
