Confused about the 2 techs Fran had

I reference this all the time, but Jay Bilas said on air during an MSU game on ESPN about 10 years ago after a Fran technical on a blown traveling call that Izzo was well outside the coaching box the following possession. Explicitly said the explanation for the T was for leaving the coaching box and if that was the case Izzo should also get one for arguing a call even even further out of it.

My money is on him definitely saying something. Refs will tolerate anger in their direction if you do it with some respect for them intact but like in baseball there are just certain words you don't say and Fran doesn't seem to have any problem going there. Connor will be even worse as a coach I'd bet as he's the most lippy to refs of any Iowa player I've ever seen, no matter how blatant his foul was. It looks like Szelc called the 'T' on Fran's first and PMac's asking "why" - both ridiculous technicals. Green only booted Fran after the first ridiculous 'T' by Szelc.

Green and Fran have a history I am told. You are correct that it was a very picky Tech for slightly stepping outside the coaches box BUT Fran may have said something that time and I think he definitely think he gave Green some choice words to get the 2nd T and the heave ho.

I rewatched and Fran was 1 step out of the box and wasn't saying anything yet. His first t was for being out of the box. Green arguably was going to give Fran a technical no matter what tonight. I've never seen a tech administered like that. If you watch Green is waiting for Fran to take a step and immediately t'd him up. That's when Fran got mad. Green is a problem and although we lost on our own tonight, Green will cost us a close game guaranteed.

Theres no question that Green wanted to toss Fran. Green could have distanced himself from Fram after the first T, but he didn’t. He made himself an easy target, Fran took the bate, and Green tossed him pretty quickly especially after he blew the 10 Second call.

Green is a horrible ref in general. Why the Big Ten tolerates him is beyond me.

Just stop and think about how many times this year that Gatens and others have had to restrain Fran. I totally agree that too many times refs have been absolutely garbage and missed important calls, but the PBP guys laughing early on about how Fran would be far more upset than he already was is telling. I don’t mind being know for having a “fiery” coach but we’re known for having an embarrassing coach. Hell I’d rather have Connor take over. He might teach defense.

As Northwestern was shooting the technicals, Chris Collins was clearly walking outside the coach’s box. Fran deserved a T for sure and maybe even deserved 2 for arguing, but making the first about the box is as ridiculous as the missed 10 second call.
