Congratulations to Austin Blythe

Congrats.

The added significance of this lies in the recruiting game. It sounds better to be able to say that at least one Hawkeye has been taken in the NFL draft every year Kirk has been head coach. I assume this to be true but am too lazy to look it up.

He was our best lineman last year imo and played all four years. I think it is a great pickup where you got him

Colts fan here. Is this guy top end? Glad to get another O-Lineman to block for Luck

Can't help but think of the parallel between Austin and another former Iowa played also labeled 'too small'...

Different players entirely, yet each was unfairly deemed undersized way too quickly and easily. When the NFL ever learns to measure heart and determination, then they might be on to something.

The other player I was thinking about wore jersey #33 for Iowa and played on defense. He became a standout for the Colts (as #21) for several seasons.

Here is hoping the Blythe gets a true and fair opportunity because he just might be able to also prove some of the experts/doubters wrong.

He will definitely get a chance. If there is any team that is fair with guys, its the Colts.
Besides that, we need guys like him

I'm a Colt fan also, Really pleased that they drafted Austin, The Colts need serious upgrades to the O-line, Especially 2 spots on the interior of the line, Austin will have a chance to compete that's for sure. If nothing else I think he should have a real good shot at making the practice squad.

Austin was an AWESOME Hawkeye, but IMHO he had a hard time with bona fide NFL-sized DTs. Impeccable technique, but these NFL DTs are incredibly big and strong.

I am hoping for the best. He will be an excellent option for interior OL back-up, is my best guess. He will be able to play and learn all 3 positions.
