not sure if it's been mentioned in other threads, but another mistake was taking a delay of game 5 yard penalty when up by 2 points at end of game. Punt was barely past the 20 yd line. Should've hit a squibbler to the sideline.

I can disagree about 50% on this. The coaching decisions especially the lame ass 2 pt conversion and the delay of game on the last punt were really stupid. I dont like to take a time out when punting if it is early in a half in order to save them for later but with 40 seconds to go and time and yardage in your favor take the time out, run a rugby style kick to use a couple more seconds and then boom it.
I havent watched the replay yet which I usually do to focus on the line play but and a big but is the last two or three Iowa possessions was Cade running the clock down to 1 second before the snap.
And Ragnar what about this, the last few possessions, even just the last two possessions run some sweep plays that each take a couple more to maybe 4 seconds. It all adds up.
In the end, I think the hawks half gave it to them and the first Cade INT was a very bad throw in traffic, take the sack if need be or throw it into the seats.
Not only does a sweep or outside run eat up more time...it gets Johnson into space. He could easily break for extra yards and a game ending first down.

Kirk ball is too archaic for this era of football.
In a way, Kirk reminds me a lot of Marty Shottenheimer of the Browns, Chiefs, and Chargers. He had really stout defenses with a very low risk/low reward approach to offense. His teams were often close to being championship caliber but the offense always held his teams back from being truly great.
I think that will be Kirk’s legacy as well.
Kirk is gonna go down doing it his way win or lose. It is not a "competitive endeavor" anymore for him.
I don't think ISU deserved to win, but they did. Iowa pissed it down their leg for the entire second half and I really don't feel like the better team won after the game. There's so many things that left me scratching my head that were not Iowa-like. I couldn't believe KF went for 2 in that position. He is old school and I'm sure he is of the mantra that you don't start chasing points until you have to. Maybe he is trying to change or feeling pressured, but just doesn't know what situation to pull the trigger in.
Lastly, Iowa will continue to be big brother until the ISU fan base can come to work on the Monday after a scarce win over Iowa and not have to puff their chest out bragging. Clones had 300 yds total O in 2nd half! they made obvious adjustments. It was pitch and catch, sprinkled with 5 yds runs the whole 2nd half. Game is 4 quarters. One staff remembered that, the other mailed it in.
Actually, they probably don't. ISU has a very good QB and WR's, it is very doubtful Iowa can develop that by the end of the year.
ISU also played without its top 3 linebackers coming into the season. How would Iowa look without Higgins and Jackson and another lb?

On the play Noel ran for OB and the cut down the sideline. Castro said his eyes got distracted and Noel ran past him and it was all over because a good qb can complete that pass.
