Conner starts his two sport effort!

Guess what. It’s not 4 on 5 when he helps everyone else score.

Not only that but he drives and scores or gets to the FT line with more regularity then the starting SG who plays 5 more minutes a game then he does. People need to be crying more about having a dud of a starting SG who has been in he program for 4 years then about the back-up PG who is the 8th man in the rotation.

This is the problem. You can't serve 2 masters. Selection Sunday and he should be focusing on basketball...but he's not.

If he is going to play basketball.....he needs to be all in and focused only on that. If he is going to play baseball....he needs to be all in and focused only on that.

He owes it to both teams and teammates to be the absolute best that he can be in that sport.....and that means he gives one up.

I'm going to predict that Conner gives up basketball and focuses on baseball.

Sounds like his little bro is a better baller than him. It would be humbling for him to compete (and lose) with his younger brother. If he think the grief is thick now wait till Fran has 2 kids on the team and he is the weaker one.

One of the shortcomings of the staff is lack of point guard. Yes, I'm looking at you Connor. Dolph was right. Connor playing in a baseball games means one of two things: he quit on his basketball season or the baseball season will be a problem if they need him already or both!

And now sadiehawkins dumbest post of the year has a legitimate contender.

Watch the offense when Connor is in the game. He dribbles for 10-12 seconds and no movement and they scramble to run the offense then. And that shot form is awful. A good coach would have corrected that many years ago especially if white magic is also your dad. Fran doesn't coach any player up including his own kid

As has been proven many times - and you know this but your hatred of Fran won’t let you admit it - many players have improved under Fran. He’s not a perfect coach by any means but don’t just make things up.

And while this part is on Fran, Connor is a Freshman back-up PG. He has to play more then he should because the Shooting Giards are regularly so ineffective that the starting PG has to move to Shooting Guard. And the starting Point Guard is just as ineffective at Point Guard against quality team because he also is not a true Point Guard.

Lil lik played D1 basketball also. Doesn't make you D1 when your dad is the coach sorry.

One was a walkon during a train wreck. Said walkon contributed very little to his high school team being carried by 4 other D1 athletes- the Derbys, Gatens and Malcom Moore.

The other is a 4* pg out of high school who plays significant minutes because he might end up being the best ball handler/ decision maker we have. He just looks totally gun shy from 3 but he's starting to drive more.

Very good post but will be lost on a majority of these crybabies. Yes, he’s not a good shooter. However, for a back-up PG he still is the best post feeder, he still is probably the only guy that can dribble against pressure, he drives and finishes more then both the starting guards, and he is tough then the starting SG.

Iowa isn't winning a National Championship in either sport anytime soon, so not that big of deal to me.
Conner McCaffery is no Bo Jackson..
McCaffery needs to work on his shooting, it’s not very good form..

Nothing really more to be said. Only a handful of athletes have the athleticism to do 2 DI sports and be able to do both justice. There is no shame that McCaffery isn't one of them.
Once was very common with Alvin Dark, Frankie Baumholtz, Jackie Jensen, Gene Conley, Jackie Robinson,
Dick Groat, Tom Yewic, Vic Janowitz and others.

The most current college 2 sport athlete in this list is from 65 years ago. Some 6 years before Fran (not Conner) was even born.

Bo Jackson played baseball and football. So it can
be done while in college. The question is "What
happens after college?" Bo Jackson played both
in the NFL and MLB. He was a stud athlete who is
a rare guy.

I remember that was starting to look like a trend in the late 80's. You had multiple players, Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders and Brian Jordan.

I disagree about owing something to his teammates. The basketball team is a really close group and they 100 percent support Connor playing baseball.

I do agree with you that eventually he’ll decide to only play baseball since that’s where he’s most likely to have a future, but in the meantime, both teams are more than fine with him splitting time. Heller is a fantastic coach...if he didnt believe in Connor or think he could help the team win, he wouldn’t allow it, much less start him.

It absolutely blows my mind that people don’t think we needed Connor badly this year.

The exact same team that went 4-14 added two quality freshmen and made the tournament.

This is what people need to focus on. Unless something changes, Connor's sport is baseball and he's playing basketball as his second sport. People may not like that but that's the way it is. We need him to play basketball because we need a second PG. If his dad wasn't the coach, he maybe would have focused all his time on baseball, but he knows this team needs him and I appreciate him playing.

Good point. Goes back to people taking their frustration with Fran out on Connor.

You are correct! Connor is more than adequate as a back up point guard. That is what he is. He plays an important role on this team by eating up some minutes and distributing the basketball. For the people thinking he only plays because he is the coach's son, learn the game. Just who else on this team could take over his role? Anyone else would be turning the ball over in epic proportions.

He will likely focus on baseball at some point, but it won't be because of any humbling. Don't you think that part of the reason he's playing basketball and not doing baseball full time right now is that he wants to play hoops with his brother?

I've said it since last fall, he has a future as a professional in baseball if that is the route he wants to go. It doesn't mean he will make the major leagues, it does mean he has the hitting ability and projectability to be drafted. If he were my son, I'd tell him to go play baseball full time and find out exactly how good he can be at that sport.
