If you’re ever in a conversation with an Iowa basketball fan and you want to know if they’re an idiot or not, ask them what they think of Adam Woodbury or Connor McCaffery.

Proof that clown fans don’t know anything about College Basketball.
His defense, 1x1, was not great. Dude beat him 2x in a row early and dunked on second play.Nobody on this team has been great defensively.
The fact he thinks this is a big part of the reason we haven't had postseason success under Fran.
Ahhh. Perhaps thou may be one of those people the coach was speaking about. You know, the ones who don't understand basketball. Getting beat twice doesn't mean you aren't a good defender. Take the number of times the player he is guarding touches the ball and how many times he scores vs how many times they don't. Then add help defense TO's and blocks and that gives you an idea of how good of a defender someone is on a given night. His defense, 1x1, was not great. He does well down low slapping the ball but he is absolutely not a good defender.
Well what's the answer? If you’re ever in a conversation with an Iowa basketball fan and you want to know if they’re an idiot or not, ask them what they think of Adam Woodbury or Connor McCaffery.
Yeah that's not really an evaluation you want to do on Connor. He's a horrible on the ball defender. Help side, great communicator, actually one of the few guys that boxes his man out on this team, yes he does all those things well. Blocking shots, keeping his guy in front of him, no he's really bad at those two things. He's also been beat on so many back doors this year. Saying Connor is a great defender is really an indictment on Fran's ability to coach defense. It would be possible evidence of why his teams are consistently bad on defense if he thinks Connor is a great defender. Could there possibly be other reasons Fran would possibly say he's a great defender? I can think of a couple. Of course I can't say the one because well that means people on here will say really bad things about you as a poster. How dare anybody think like that and call them self a Hawkeye fan.Ahhh. Kris is really close to being a great defender. He's had some dominating defensive moments this year. He just gets bullied sometimes which makes it hard for me to say he's a great defender. I'd say Rebraca has been great considering that he's guarding guys he has no business guarding. The amount of height, length and weight he gives up is crazy but man he battles so hard underneath every game. What Rebraca has been asked to do this year is clearly on Fran's lack of ability to bring in a true 5 this year. There's been a lot of matchups that Rebraca has been asked to guard guys he has no business guarding this year.Nobody on this team has been great defensively.

Two of numerous examples we have all seen.Ahhh. Perhaps thou may be one of those people the coach was speaking about. You know, the ones who don't understand basketball. Because as a "tweener" he's constantly ending up in bad matchups, especially against quicker guards. Much like Caitlin Clark (also not a great defender), they make an impact as a help defender digging out balls when they double down on players in the post. His defense, 1x1, was not great. Dude beat him 2x in a row early and dunked on second play.

Easily my favorite player on the team (FR).Kris is really close to being a great defender. He's had some dominating defensive moments this year. He just gets bullied sometimes which makes it hard for me to say he's a great defender. I'd say Rebraca has been great considering that he's guarding guys he has no business guarding. I would have to agree with you on Clark. Not a shut down defender so she should only be getting 20 min. per game, per the posts above. We're Iowa and should be #1 in all sports we play!!!Because as a "tweener" he's constantly ending up in bad matchups, especially against quicker guards. Much like Caitlin Clark (also not a great defender), they make an impact as a help defender digging out balls when they double down on players in the post.
You're joking about this right? That girl would be the most important player on the team if she didn't even come down on defense. She's the most productive player in the nation.I would have to agree with you on Clark. Not a shut down defender so she should only be getting 20 min. per game, per the posts above. Caitlin leads the team in steals AND blocks btw.Because as a "tweener" he's constantly ending up in bad matchups, especially against quicker guards. Much like Caitlin Clark (also not a great defender), they make an impact as a help defender digging out balls when they double down on players in the post.
Yes she does, which she does "off the ball" as I said. She's become adept at jumping passing lanes out front for break aways. Most of her blocks are off the ball or from behind. Not dogging her, she understands how to get the job done even against better athletes.Caitlin leads the team in steals AND blocks btw.
I see what you did there...I would have to agree with you on Clark. Not a shut down defender so she should only be getting 20 min. per game, per the posts above. We're Iowa and should be #1 in all sports we play!!!
Im pretty sure that Chuck was being sarcastic based on his directing his comment back to what was said about Cmac.....You're joking about this right? That girl would be the most important player on the team if she didn't even come down on defense. She's the most productive player in the nation.
No he can't.No doubt CM is not an A1 defender. BUT
the guy can play D against the 1 through 5s , his versatility alone makes him a very important defender.
He is definitely worth 3 wins a year
Connor can’t guard a 1 or a 5. Just because Fran says he can doesn’t make it true. He’s a decent role player for sure. To be fair not many guys on the team can guard a true big ten 5. And maybe one or two that could stick with a true big ten point guard. No doubt CM is not an A1 defender. BUT
the guy can play D against the 1 through 5s , his versatility alone makes him a very important defender.
He is definitely worth 3 wins a year
But he’s the ONLY guy who doesNo he can't.
He's not nearly quick enough to guard 1-3, and is undersized to guard 4 and 5.
He works hard and is smart/tough, but is very limited physically.
He does the best with what he's given, but that isn't enough to make him effective.
To his credit, at least he wants to try to play defense, which is more than Jordan Bohannon could ever say.
Three wins a year above a replacement player???No doubt CM is not an A1 defender. BUT
the guy can play D against the 1 through 5s , his versatility alone makes him a very important defender.
He is definitely worth 3 wins a year
On this team, relative defensive effort doesn't make him a good defender. But he’s the ONLY guy who does
Perfectly sensible post.CMac is just another one of those "less than perfect" Hawks. Yes, he has weaknesses.
I'll take him for my team any day. I feel better when he's in the game.
You just don't know the game.Who cares! He has 76 assists, he plays about the entire game. He doesn’t do crap. If he didn’t have the same name as the coach he’d be playing about 5 minutes a game.
