Connor McCaffery Wows in Eastern Iowa All Star Game

Kind of tell it's an all star game, no defense or enthusiasm on the court. Looks smooth, just like his old man back in the day.

This is why I love Iowa fans. Yes, some times we have our fickle whims and Chicken Little moments, but overall, we're pretty knowledgeable and level headed.

Now, compare this to the likely reaction of the average Iowa State fan (on this board) who would be watching the same highlights of their "4-star recruit": "Prohm is the greatest recruiter ever." "He's going to be first team AA next year." "We're going to the Final Four next year, book it."

Ahhh, yes, fans.

I don't know. The kid gets MVP of an All Star game? I think it's ok for a little, "Atta Boy!" If we're pretty knowledgeable and level headed, overall, than we know what the event was.

Kind of reminds me of when somebody posts about the PTL and invariably somebody posts, "You can't tell anything from watching the PTL!" Well, yeah...not entirely true. SOME people can't tell anything from watching the PTL, but there are plenty of things one can tell.

And let's be honest, technically even if nobody was playing defense, Connor still won the MVP. It's like, "Hooray! In a game of horse our guy won!" That's something.

I agree, Dan. But my point was Iowa fans aren't slipping into delusions of grandeur about it as opposed to the...uh, fans of the team west of us. ;) Given the performance of many of them over the last week or so, I think my subtle (or perhaps not so subtle) dig at them was rather apropos.

Oh, and I think most of us know Conor McCaffery has the chance to be pretty good.

You do have a good point about the squatters to our west. I'm looking forward, as a minor footnote during a successful Hawkeye basketball season in 2017/18, to the peace and quiet afforded this board when the braggadocios interlopers West of us slither under their rocks to lick their wounds.

This is the guy who Iowa fans question being a 4 star. Can't win around here.

Pssst--He's white.

Me, personally, I can only imagine how rough it must be for Duke fans. All the 4 and 5 star white boys like Kennard, Allen, Singler, Redick, Dunleavy, etc. they've endured watching over the years.

Honestly, I really think that's a lot of it. When it comes to athletics, a highly rated white kid is viewed as not as good as a highly rated black kid. The same poor assumptions (in reverse) are made when it comes to academics, jobs, etc.

People need to grow up.

First of all, Dan, they've got a plan to replace this year's Cyclone squad with something terrific, okay?

And trust them, they're not trying to be braggadocios, but other teams aren't going to be winning as much as they are, okay? It's going to be beautiful. They are going to be winning and winning bigly, it's going to make our heads spin, okay? And they are going to unleash their beautiful rivals.com accounts to let you know about how terrific it's going to be, okay?

Trust them, it's going to be terrific.

White, AND from Iowa, AND the coaches son! Talk about the perfect storm for the self-loathing among us to toss their cookies like waves tossing over a boat in the midst of a Nor'easter!

LOL!!! Very good. Yes, I forget they have Wiggington coming out of Oak Hill. A four star kid, top 50, who as we were recently informed is "getting ready" to be a five star. Whatever the he11 that meant.

I'm sure the kid has a chance to be terrific for a year or two until he jumps to the NBA draft and eventually finds his way to Europe/DLeague. Who knows.

Personally, I don't care how highly rated a kid is or isn't, replacing Monte Morris is a tall task for anyone. And Mr. Four Star Oak Hill Stud Muffin is going to find out real quick he's not going to be surrounded by the likes of Thomas, Long, and Burton next season.

Look at it this way: I'm sure Duke fans thought adding Jayson Tatum to an already talented core of Allen, Kennard, Jones, and Jefferson would put Duke in a place to win the ACC and compete for a Final Four this year. Well, Duke finished behind four other teams in the ACC and got bounced from the tournament the first weekend.

My point? Wiggington isn't going to be playing with anything remotely close to Allen, Kennard, Jones, and Jefferson next year. Yet, Cyclone fans are invading our board with this insanely idiotic drivel about how great their recruiting is now and how much of a threat for the Final Four they are in the next couple years. Oh, and don't forget, the difference is Prohm emphasizes defense, so yeah, there ya go, he's figured out the winning formula--playing good defense--that other coaches in America haven't quite caught on to yet...so, ya know, it's, it's going to be beautiful and terrific. Trust them.

Conner's handles look very good in that video and his 3 point shot more fluid than I remember from last year. It is a huge advantage to be a tall point and be able to shoot over your defender outside the 3 point line. Horner made a career out of it. He certainly looks like a point to me, I think he will provide a step up and much needed depth behind Bohannon next year.

I'm glad he is coming, that's for sure! However, the defense in that video:

I am 63, and I could have scored points against the defense Connor was facing.

They've never seen the deadly flat-footed over-the-shoulder shoot-from-the-hip semi-hook shot from the elbow. I know, when you're over 50 you have to reach into your bag of trick shots playing street ball down at the Y-league.

Well in their defense they've actually been to the tournament a few more times than us recently.......

Time to change that, perhaps?

Connor is a 4-star and is the 204th best player in the class of 2017, according to what I just Googled on ESPN. About the video-- It is a farce, no defense, no coaching, no plays. The kid is good, and I've seen him play in person for four years. According to that ranling, he is our highest-rated recruit next year. Garza is about 225th, also a 4-star and Nunge is about 300, a three star. However, I consider the order of these rankings essentially meaningless.
