Pemsl plays street ball still. That needs coached! He is a down low post guy. Love this team.:)

if that street is at the local YMCA over 40 league, yes he plays “street ball”.
I agree. He just plays to what the other guys let him do. To me that is street ball. He needs to be posted up. Not doing rolling screens at all. To me that is a pick and roll but he doesn't roll. Street ball.

I don’t think he’s capable of posting and finishing like he did as a frosh. To me his biggest problem is he tries to get a bit “cute” squeezing a pass in. He’s not a bad passer just needs to make better decisions. I think he wants so bad to contribute that he makes poor passes.

If he Posts up that frees all the shooters including Garza. Why have him setting screens every time way out there. Im a b baller and if the ball gets inside it is a big challenge to defend. Let the guards do their thing. Not having Pemsl around the rim blows my mind. Kid is an Ox!

Freshman year he was solid at the 5. Fran made him Lose Weight and moved him out last year

I’m guessing at this point his body isn’t letting him do a lot if that stuff. I would not be shocked if the sole reason he is playing right now is because the team needs him fir ti all the injuries and personnel losses.

Kid can no longer jump more than 6 inches. He gets it blocked almost every time he is down low, which is why I think we don't see him down there much these days. Wish it weren't so.

How did Pemsl get into this thread? Illannoy coach had it right in his post game, when he criticized his center for leaving Garza to challenge Pemsl "who hasn't made a shot in more than a month." I know Cordell made a couple of lay ups and even one 3 in the last month, but the point is correct. Pemsl is no longer a threat, from outside or near the basket.

It will be interesting to see how teams play Iowa the rest of the year. The strategy by Underwood was basically to not guard anyone other that Garza, Frederick and Wieskamp. Conor stepped up and hit 3-5 from 3-point land. Rest of the team didn't do anything. Kriener has been overall very good this year, Hawks need him to bounce back at Purdue tonight.

You'd think he's a coach's kid.

Those “coaches kids” always are savvy studs on the court aren’t they. Connor = 139 points 102 rebounds 83 assists 20 turnovers. Steven IZZO (MSU), Jack HOIBERG (MSU) and Tyler UNDERWOOD (IL) COMBINED=42 points 20 rebounds 14 assists 10 turnovers.

This is exactly the strategy that I'd expect from any coach paying the least bit of attention. Iowa has three obvious scorers that warrant all the attention.

A short article in Sports Illustrated is probably OK,.. But absolutely no cover. The cover is cursed for us. DO NOT WANT....
Not a big deal, but it seems like the Connor article is on the "HawkeyeMaven" team page on the SI website, as opposed to being part of the national magazine.

I didn't know it existed, and it looks like there some other good stuff on the webpage.

Amazing to think that he didn’t even belong on a division 1 team last year.
What I remember is people saying that he isn't a big ten point guard (not saying people didn't say he wasn't d1, just remember bten pg thing) and I think him not having to handle the ball and bring up court as much is a big reason he is having more success. I think he's playing a more natural role this year and it has really helped the team. Cuz of roster I think he was forced into a tough spot last yr. He's also a lot more confident with some experience, as most players are. His toughness is very valuable. Keep it up Connor!

True, yet those 3 still combined to score 61 of the team's 72 points.

Nice SI article on Conner. I don’t think this was posted anywhere https://www.si.com/.amp-iowa/college/iowa/basketball/basketball-notebook-020420

Thanks for sharing. Enjoy reading Fran's comments as he does a good job of breaking down basketball.

Didn't realize that Evelyn has 2 points is 5 games. But some of that is Joe T playing more and playing REALLY WELL.

Connor and Joe T have both really been huge boosts for the team.

Hopefully Kriener can get going again tonight, he's had a couple "off" games lately.
