NET Rankings

11th in B1G. We'll be struggling on and off the bubble all season.
If we beat Utah and avoid any more bad losses the games will be there and the NET will rise accordingly. NET wise alone we have played our toughest game (ISU) so far no other team left on our schedule has a higher NET ranking so the face we played them so tough in a rivalry game gives me some hope we can get some good Q1 games at home.

Utah State and ISU are hardly trash. My God, the non conference expectations on here are unreal.

Looking at the NET, we're 12th out of 18 teams and our lone B1G win is over NW which is currently 14th in NET. The resume so far looks like a team that will sit out the NCAA tourney, but I do agree they could improve and lots of opportunity in conference to raise NET. Looking over 15 years of Fran ball, is this what you had hoped for?

What are your expectations for Iowa BB based on the last 60 years?
I have followed Iowa BB since 1964.
We have had 1970, 1980, 1987 teams break out.
So, in 60 years, 3 special teams
Fran still has 5 years to match our history of a special year every 20 years or so.
The Garza POY year we were a #2 seed..close to special.

The two teams we’ve lost to are top 20 NET, one top 10, and we’ve been dealing with injuries. Both losses could have gone each way. I’ve seen enough seasons not to get to wrapped up in how the team is performing record wise in December. Lots of games left and I still like the potential on this team.

15 years have shown a lot of ups and a few disappointments. A lot of people only evaluate based upon NCAA performances. To me, I enjoy ever game, not just the last. I like that we always finish in the top half of the Big. I like that we usually make the NCAA tournament. I like that Fran is a good man and has quality students on his team. I like that he puts out an entertaining product. I like that he produces alll Americans like Luka and Keegan. And I think he is our best shot for producing an ncaa run in the next 3 years.

No it doesn't. There are no blemishes at all we have a clean slate and lots of opportunities.

This is very well said and I agree with all of it.

I think the point is that going 0-2 in those games hurts. Winning just one boosts the NET tremendously.

That's quite lovely for you, just so long as you understand that that none of that coping nonsense means anything at all to the world outside of your bliss bubble.

"...top half of the Big..."

Canadian Lol GIF

Literally, WTF?

Name the Big Ten coaches who are not "good men." Name the Big Ten programs that don't have "quality students." It's all a coping fantasy. I'm embarrassed for you.

As close to special as a 3rd place conference finish and getting embarrassed in the second round can be.

The post season failures by Fran understandably have a lot of fans disappointed. ISU is a very good team, and we were a couple of plays away from winning that game. I still believe that Iowa got the short end of the stick against UM in the last 30 sec. First, a goal tend call that could have gone either way, then a noncall on Pryce's last sec 3 when the UM player clearly made contact with his body on the shot. UM got called for a much more debatable foul call on a 3 at the end of their game against OU last night, giving 0U a 4-point play and and 1-pt win. Figure out how to end defensive possessions with a rebound, and this team can win a lot of games. If they don't, they won't.

Again, too many 300+ teams.
That is my beef. That is the problem. Year after year.
If the big boys didn't use these 300+ teams for cannon fodder, they would die financially. They don't get TV and conference money like we do and really need the funds they get from playing games they know they have very little chance of winning. It's a system that been in place for decades. And it's not just Iowa.

0-3 in Quad 1 wins though. Not a good look.
But it's probably an accurate reflection of this team's value. It's really difficult to collect wins against a good team when you're always outrebounded by a wide margin. You need to shoot lights out and hope the opponent doesn't. They shot very well Saturday night and pulled out a victory against an average team that outrebounded them by 8. That didn't work against the better teams and probably won't going forward, but inserting Thelwell into the starting lineup has improved the offensive flow and perimeter defense and given them a better chance to win a few of those than they had before that move was made.

Iowa currently #49 NET (12th in B1G). Behind Maryland, Illinois, Oregon, UCLA, MSU, OSU, Michigan, PSU, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Nebraska

If selection happened today, we would be out.

We're going to have to win some games we are not expected to win, and TCB at home.

Will be close again.

If we stay #50 or better in NET, come March I think we're dancing.

Well, if you got credit for close losses to good teams than Iowa would be a shoo in for the tournament.

You are right , sooner or later , you have to win some of those games against good teams teams. Opportunities are coming up again. Better to win them all but if you can’t do that better to win them going into the tournament than earlier in the season.

Which has us about 20 spots than this time a year ago.
You mean the year we didn't come close to making the tourney? The year before the B1G added UCLA, USC, Oregon and Washington?

Iowa was #65 NET on December 29, 2023: https://bracketologists.com/date/2023-12-29

You were sorta close.

If you think the B1G is getting 13 teams into the NCAA Tournament, get ready to be disappointed.

No worries though, we should rise about 3-4 spots when we beat #359 New Hampshire by 40+. lol

forgive me, we're only 15 spots better than we were a year ago. let me go fall on my sword...

that still has us much better situated going into conference play than last year. no, the b10 probably isn't getting 13 teams in - i never said they were. I also don't think the order of teams per the NET is going to stay the same as it is right now.

At the end of the day we weren't as far off from making the tournament as you want to believe - Iowa had at least 3-4 conference games (especially that Michigan game early on) that were very winnable and probably was the difference between dancing and not.

At the end of the day - last season went about how I thought they would, given all the roster turnover. For much of the season they flirted with the bubble, but couldn't get over the hump. I think they'll do so this year.
