Just to be clear, this is CPAC Europe. CPAC is still in Texas in August. It didn’t “move” to Hungary.

How many US-based "speakers" attended CPAC Europe?

EDIT: Attended or Are Speaking Remotely-

  • Tucker Carlson
  • Matt Schlapp
  • Candace Owens
  • Ben Ferguson
  • Mark Meadows
  • GOP lawmakers from FL and MD

So, don't pretend they aren't "involved" here. They're All In.

Where did I pretend that US Based speakers were not involved.

Don’t put words in my mouth.

When you alluded to it "not being CPAC in Texas".

They are fully intertwined, and the folks associated with BOTH events are associating themselves with autocrats and fascists.

You seriously think Ronald Reagan would have associated himself with Hungary? Those Republicans don't exist anymore. They get referred to as "RINOs" nowadays.

GOP Party Platform supports fascism. Recognize it, and vote against it if you're against autocracy and fascism. Quit finding excuses to "look the other way".

I fail to see the problem with the Hungary guy. Sounds like socialists got control and ran the country into the ground (shocker). He was the response the people wanted. If you all hate someone, usually that’s a calling sign for me to research and learn the truth.

I'm certain this is true.
And it's the primary problem.
Make the case. I just see a lot of “he’s a Nazi” from the left with few details. I did a quick 5 minutes of research and nothing on that level popped up.

What part of "authoritariansm" is problematic for you?
Again, what makes him authoritarian? Just screaming Nazi, coup, insurrectionist, traitor, etc. doesn’t make it true. Ironically, that’s something Hitler outlined on how to convince a population of something that’s completely false- just keep saying it over and over.

Hungary’s response to the pandemic is especially alarming. On March 30, the Hungarian parliament voted to allow Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to rule by decree indefinitely, giving him dictatorial powers for at least the foreseeable future. Orbán can suspend existing laws or enact new ones—all with de facto parliamentary approval and without a known end date. The law also criminalizes spreading false or distorted facts that interfere with the public safety or are “suitable for alarming or agitating” the public, crimes punishable by several years in prison. Concerningly, this language is vague enough to cover anyone who challenges the government’s preferred narratives and handling of the coronavirus. With lower courts already suspended and the path to the Constitutional Court unclear, it’s difficult to envision the legislation being challenged. As legal sociologist Kim Lane Scheppele writes in the Hungarian Spectrum, Orbán’s “emergency gives him everything he ever dreamed of: The absolute freedom to do what he wants.”

Such sweeping measures did not unfold overnight. For Hungary, the coronavirus has accelerated a decade-long democratic crisis, during which Orbán has gradually consolidated his power and weaponized rhetoric to emphasize an ethnic Hungarian identity, target vulnerable groups, and dismantle the institutions responsible both for protecting those groups and for checking executive power—ultimately transforming Hungary into an illiberal state.

Hmm. Interesting. Local politicians here did similar things. Picking winners and losers, mandating masks, shutting down businesses, curfews. Do you think newsome is also a dictator? Probably not because he’s a corrupt democrat.

Nevermind, should have read further. Of course you don't have any problems with the guy.

They were reacting to a national emergency and all of those decrees are gone now. They are no where remotely the same. But false equivalencies is all you have to debate with here I guess.

I have trouble trusting what folks from the left tell me to think or how to feel about something. They have a very, very bad track record of being honest.
