Constant underperforming

Then why say it?? It’s an idiotic, ignorant, delusional claim. We’re nowhere even close to that and you know it.
For years Goblin you have been quick to defend Brands, insist that everything is fine, and hate on anyone not 100% on board with the way things are going. Let me ask you, how many titles do you think Iowa gets in the next 5 years?

No fanbase can fill a 15000 seat arena. It's ok for Iowa fans to have high expectations. Time for a change of leadership. Including the HWC. Probably the lowest point in awhile for Iowa wrestling.
100% agree. You cannot call yourself objective and conclude differently. Some fans just defend the coaches at all costs and get a case of red ass when other fans (yes, fans) are critical of the coaches. I am not one of them. We are not moving forward as a program, and I wholeheartedly believe changes need to be made. Way too much underachieving over the last decade to be acceptable, unless you are content with runner-up/contender status. I hope some changes are made.

Wrong. I just don’t get caught up in my emotions. I’m realistic and see the big picture. We’re the 2nd best program in the country. Tell me your plan to take over the freight train that is PSU…. In the meantime I’ll continue to support my favorite team.

I’ll add that many complaints are validated, but I’m not going to pretend I’m smarter than Tom Brands or a better wrestling coach. Put in an application, email Gary Barta, or donate a very large sum of money or shut up.

Marinelli wrestled in France in January. He also is a great training partner / mentor for current guys. I watched him absolutely work the hell out of Abe Assad in open practice in October.

That’s such a bs cop out. Fans can’t have opinions? Brands set the expectation. He knows he has fallen short. Let’s see if their ego will finally let them go outside of the program.

How much money are "we" paying him? Maybe since you are a contributer you should write a bigger check so we can add to our arsenal.
Once again, that’s BS. PSU brings in big name after big name and Iowa is housing guys who don’t want to wrestle. Goblin will say it’s for some reason but won’t say exactly why. Well then I would say let’s look for a coach who can make it happen.

You do know that the PSU club has far more $ than any other club and is able to poach the Dakes, Gilmans and Snyders. $ is the key to getting whoever you are wanting. Pony up $.

Excuses are for wusses, right? That money is fundraised, correct? Why is PSU so much better at raising funds and building a championship team? Iowa is outclassed in the coaching department. We need some fresh faces, especially at the upper weights.

The Lee loss has to be hard to take but overall this hasn't been a bad tournament for Iowa. Kennedy maybe could have aa'd but 165 is loaded. Other than him and Lee I'd say everything has gone as expected or better than should have been anticipated. Penn state has over performed, again. It's what they do and the rest of the field needs to adjust. Lee can still take 3rd. A tremendous career all things considered.

Then explain it for me genius. He has said it in interviews and articles. He is ready to move on to coaching. I’m beginning to think you don’t know shit; just an apologist for every time Iowa lays an egg, which is ever March.
Wouldn’t be convenient for you if I gave a shit what you think? Be a PSU fan. No one will know or care and you’ll be happier.

I don't think anyone here is saying Iowa wrestling doesn't need to significantly shake things up, but outside of Carl Sanderson, who right now do you think could run Iowa wrestling better than Tom Brands?

Last time I checked, Dake and Taylor are still competing through another Olympic cycle and Burroughs doesn't seem interested in coaching at this level, at least not yet. It's also a major stretch to just assume those guys could step in and replicate what Tom has done with zero experience coaching at this level.

I am curious who you think Iowa could realistically get who could step in right now and do a better job than Tom.

So you can’t explain it then? Haha. Love how your answer to Iowa fans who don’t want to keep getting their ducks kicked in by PSU is to tell them leave the fan base. Do you think the majority of the fans are fine with underachieving like you are?

How about we just go after any significant outside hire. I don’t think anyone thinks the room will be filled with US team members tomorrow. Let’s just show we can get SOMEONE other than an Iowa grad. That would at least signal a willingness to change and adapt.

So are you talking about replacing an assistant coach or two? If so, I would agree with you.

We need to shake up upper weight coaching 165 and above - that is definitely the difference.

Waiting on die hard guys to act like it’s not a problem. Also f Penn state - so pumped how some of our guys battled and won.

Lowest point? It's the first time during the Cael run Iowa has been good enough to finish second to Penn State's championship title. That is a pretty good weekend plus you have a finalist, and a handful of AAs. Not Gablesque, but pretty good.

Star and Telford need to go and the HWC needs to shake things up. TnT need to evaluate their program. How they recruit. Who they recruit. How they develop. How they match prep. Also need to look at the injury bug issue and figure out why so many of our guys are banged up at the end of their careers.

You said you are inching closer. You will finish second this year, were third last year, first 2 years ago. Hell, you don't even have a 3 year declining trend.
We are in an interesting era of wrestling right now. Nobody else has the horses to put up a fight for 2nd. It really waters down once you get to 5th. There is no parity in the sport right now and I think that's bad for wrestling. Its becoming more and more an individual sport instead of a team sport. $$$ will ruin it.

I suppose when Gable was winning every year you thought that was all good.

While I would like to see Penn State continue to dominate, some diversity behind the Lions on the trophy stand woukd be good. It would also be good to see a second and third place team chase Penn State through the finals. Cornell gave the Lions a good go for the first one, and Minnesota and Oklahoma St gave the Lions good goes during the first run. Of course Ohio State in 2018 was an exciting team race and made Bo's match legendary.
