Cook?

I'd tweak this a bit> Not UNDERSTANDING his own skill set and how he could be a competitor is his biggest flaw.

He needs to take a page from Reggie Evans. On offense, he needs to lurk on the weak side. Always be in rebounding position. Garbage points. Occasionally his favorite thing (DUNKS) will result. Then he can flex his muscles and stare at the crowd, which is his second favorite thing.

He never ever had any shot at the NBA and too many fans fell for it. Even earlier this season people here argued that maybe he could get there. No chance, never was a chance. He's simply damaging himself to the point where even the G-League and some Euro clubs are going to be like, meh.

Totally agree and I’ve been echoing the same thing. That’s a great way to put it - he doesn’t understand his own skill-set (and it seems no one including his family, friends, coaches, evaluators) have explained this to him OR someone has and he doesn’t want to hear it. If his TRUE goal is to be an NBA player, then he would have remade himself into a garbage man who specializes in rebounding, playing tough D, and being a menace around the rim. But maybe his goal is to just be “the man” offensively and if that’s the case, it’s not going to happen for him.

The whole foul thing has gotten into this teams head. They are scared to commit fouls and I think they play tentatively after picking up foul 1.

No way Cook can go pro today. If he does he will not be in the US, he will be over seas at best.
The whole "foul thing" is common to every team. Any coach will pull you when you get your second in the first half. Don't know why anybody thinks it's unique to Iowa

Too bad Cook doesn't realize he could make a career for himself as Reggie Evans.

Evan's was unique, not many rebound like that.

But theres plenty of guys with similar size athleticism that are in the league as all around defenders rebounder garbage men.

But instead Cook wanted to emulate Lebron.
The funny thing is if Cook could just play defense like Lebron used to, that alone would get him in the NBA.

Not gonna read all this but I have to ask........

90% of the team looks like horseshit, so why are we making a thread about one player? Be easier to name the few that don't need to be dogged!

Like RocknRollFace said, because he is our most talented upperclassmen by far, he is the one who wants to be the alpha dog and the one who was weighing going into the draft and getting NBA evaluations before this year. Also, he is the one that some people on this board say Iowa can’t live without and would be sub-500 without. Why do you think LeBron gets dogged on the Lakers more then the rest of the team? You want to be the man, you better be able to take the criticism and weight if the fans expectations like the man.

So, is it fair to say TC had 4* athletic ability...but not necessarily 4* basketball skills?

Uh, you're trying to compare him to a guy probably making $50M this year alone?

That's not very reasonable......

When UW played Iowa @ Carver in late November, Cook was dominant - he went for 19/15 and, along with Garza, put the Badger bigs in major foul trouble. He also had "swagger", trash-talking his opposition that day and backing it up with major production.

As a Badger fan, Cook being held scoreless yesterday was especially sweet. I realize that his production has fallen off considerably as the year has progressed to the latter stages, but until last night, he was one of our most feared and respected opponents.

Is he hurt?

One big reason is that he by far plays the most minutes on the team. Another reason is his effort completely sucks. Poor effort with most minutes will equal criticism. If he'd play with Baer's effort what would Iowa's record be?

I believe a lot of the "foul thing" problem is, we are the least physical team in the league and suddenly we are getting called for every ticky-tack foul in the book, while mayhem occurs at our offensive end of the court. It tends to make you play even less aggressively. We can't win like that.

I’m obviously not comparing as the same player as LeBron. It’s relative. I’m saying that Cook is supposed to be this team’s “LeBron”. Just like Happ is for the Badgers. He has made it clear he envisions himself as the go-to guy and an NBA player.

Yep. His lack of effort is the thing that bothers me the most. It’s one thing to just not be as good as he and others thought, it’s another to stand around while playing defense and rebounding and giving no effort in 50/50 balls.

I have been a Cook defender but tonight was bad. He has clearly quit and I would say 99% chance he goes to Europe or grad transfers out. No excuse for quitting but playing on this team would tax anyone. I think you could easily say the whole team has quit based on tonight's performance. Wisconsin could have won playing their bench guys. Absolutely time to run Fran and his staff out but that won't happen. If I am Joe T. I am checking my texts from other schools about now.

Forgive me if I have the wrong player but I believe in the first half there was a ball going out of bounds on an Iowa missed shot and Cook started to slowly go for it than stopped and just at that time a Badger player hustled and got the ball before it got out of bounds.
Again I apologize if it wasn’t Cook but that player totally gave up trying for the ball.

That has happened about 10 times in the last handful of games where he he doesn’t go hard for the ball and gets out-hustled. He must be saving himself from injury for the Serbian League.

It is strange that a right handed guy doesn't have a move going to his right hand.
I thought that Cook was actually left handed, when he came to Iowa. Yes, I know he shoots free throws and jumpers with his right. Jees.... maybe thats the problem....

Meh, he doesn't get compensated more than the rest of them.
I see nothing wrong with him dreaming big......why not?

Cook has some problems but come on lets not blame him for our problems on a team full of players with m

During the end-of-the-year conference, I predict will Fran will come out and report that Cook has been playing injured for the latter part of the season
