Could we see a true freshman crack the lineup?

Yes, they'd love to have that problem if they have All-American types at every weight, which Iowa does not appear to currently have.

I think we're on different pages as to what it is going to take to unseat a returning 4th place All-American as a RSFreshman. So we'll just agree to disagree.

hey that's why they have coaches to manage the lineup. I get why Brody wants to be 149 but at the end of the day the coach needs to manage the lineup and we dont need to waste precious scholly money on a backup 149.

I just dont get it. Why doesnt Brands just tell them best of 5 wrestleoffs right now in august in the practice room with no one around other than the coaches to ref.

Brody losses, get to 141, Sorny losses go 157. But do it now, not in feb when Grothus would barely have any chance at a decent 141 resume. Like I said if Brody is 141 midlands he could have Andrew Long and other rankedguys to have the chance to beat and earn himself a good NCAA seed. We have seen the committee slap guys for lack of matches and also seen where just winning or making the Big ten con finals doesnt always translate as well as it should. esp if say over half the 141 guys are from other conferences.

From every angle i just dont get this?

I may be way off on this but after watching a couple Turk matches I thought he looked like he has no shot first year.
His shot always seemed to come from far away. That is not gonna cut it in college. He does seem to have a good motor and should be a good one after a red shirt.
You need to watch more matches, a couple tells you nothing.

Seems to me that Sorensen has proven himself through the year and at NCAAs. Brody has not. If Brandon continues to do the right things and train the right way, 149 should be his regardless of head-to-heads/wrestleoff results.

TNT should tell Brody that unless Brandon collapses or slacks off that Brody needs to go to 141 or 157. Life sucks sometimes, but you just have to deal with it and do what is best for the team.

I am NOT overlooking fosu. Honestly I'm more worried about Oky State at Nationals. Fosu only has 2(Tomato and Jordan) as locks to AA now that L. Streebler is gone. Hunter is still up in the air and probably at 149 and I don't see him beating the top 4 guys at this weight, still could AA IF he is and stays healthy. Dijulius is a low end AA at best if you trust Courts to repeat last years performance I think you are crazy. Honestly it would not surprise me to see them finish 5th. Oky State will probably have preseason #1's at 141(Heil) and 165(Deiringer) add to that Klimara, Collica, Krutchmer, and Mardsen who should AA. Then whoever it is 157 should be a AA also. Honestly if I were a betting man right now I would say:
1. psu
2. Iowa
3. Oky State
4. Mizzou
5. Fosu

Minnesota wont finish in the top 15 either. In our dual they MIGHT win 1 weight.....

I talked to one of last years seniors last night. He seems to think that 149 is Sorensens spot no matter what happens between Grothus and Sorensen at wrestle offs. I can't really say I disagree with that assessment.

I'm not one for guarantees but among other weights the Gophers will win 157....

Anyone know what happened to Brody's arm? The team sent out a training pic of them in Colorado and Brody has his arm in a brace?

Your boy going the first year?
If I thought he was I would not have made that statement even if I believed it to be true.

For any and all statements, declarations or predictions I make in the next 5 days I request a Dominican Rum pass... unless I'm right. Juz kidding... maybe.

Haha....yea I should have known. Forgot about the vacation, have fun.

I would like to see Brody at 141, Easter Bunny at 149, and Sorny at 157. That will be a national title winning team.

The "wrestle-off" of yesteryear doesn't exist in this day and age, and rightfully so. The "wrestle-off" of today (and for many a year now) consists of a boatload of matches against "other" competition, and if its too close to call then, they may go to the wrestle-off of our Forefathers. That is a pretty rare event indeed.

Kelly and Grothus wrestled off for 157 last year before Big Tens. This was shortly after Grothus failed attempt to get to 141. You are correct though, the wrestle offs of yesteryear are few and far between.

He was struggling to make 141. Since he'll already have a length advantage, they thought he'd still success with slightly shorter arms. They shaved off about an inch an a half from each of his humerus bones to help make weight.
