Court rules that Idaho can enforce its travel ban for abortions.

"The law’s sweeping language criminalizes anyone transporting a pregnant minor without parental consent within Idaho to get any abortion care, even outside a clinic. It could apply to a grandmother driving a pregnant minor to the post office to pick up a package containing abortion medication, for example."

Jesus. Even hitting family members w/ the "abortion trafficking" felony charges. This is gonna end well for girls w/ abusive parents.

This law deals with minors. Don't think it will end with only minors.

interesting.. so this is really sort of a variation on parental consent themes. Surprising out of the 9th circuit, and will be interesting to see if this gets en banc review. FWIW, i think it's a VERY different case from prohibiting an adult, or for that matter, a minor driving herself across the border, to get an abortion.

Those are the same idiots who oppose comprehensive sex ed and making condoms available to minors. You know, things that are proven to prevent unplanned pregnancies

Partially, but that may encourage teens to bone because they think they're safe.

The only 100% safe sex is abstinence.

Just saying. :)

This only involves minors correct?

All I know is that I feel parents should be informed if a minor wants to have an abortion.

If it were YOUR daughter, wouldn't you want to know??????????????

If not, you are a terrible parent.

Her daughter didn't follow absintence correctly. :)
Well...that's kinda the point, isn't it now? Most teens don't "follow abstinence correctly". Hence the idea that you teach them how to avoid getting pregnant and provide the means to do so. Proven to reduce unwanted pregnancies and reduce abortions. Isn't that what you want?

My point is that none of those methods is 100% effective.

There are many cases where a young girl fears the consequences of telling a parent. There are a lot of terrible parents out there who believe in physical violence as a consequence for misbehavior. Sometimes - far more rarely (I hope) - the father is THE father.

*sigh* This isn't about what they do...it's about what we teach them. Do you want to reduce teen pregnancies or not? That's the only relevant question. Abstinence only education DOESN'T WORK. Comprehensive sex ed - from a young age - and available contraceptives DOES. So what do you want to accomplish here?

Thanks for your perspective.

You get an OWI at the age of 17, don't you have to be released to your parents? I think so, I could be wrong.

But you get PREGNANT and want to end your pregnancy at 17 you don't have to tell them?

Seems extreme.

The 1st situation you list includes multiple crimes.

The 2nd situation isn't a crime at all.

So it's not really a great comparison. I get what you're trying to say though.
