Coverage of Paige in CR

What a bunch of sorry losers that are still butt hurt that Marcus turned down Iowa for NC. Ego driven??, that's definitely from someone who has never met Marcus. One of the nicest, most genuine kids I've ever got the chance to meet and work with.

Yep. Typical Iowa fans who always find excuses whether it be the refs, the announcers, etc etc.

Channel 9 still doesn't have to lap it up. It ran before Iowa Baseball tonight. That is just ridiculous

Man you like to bit#ch.

Let's see, Iowa Baseball averages about 200 attendance, no tv cause nobody would watch, and less than 1 in a hundred KCRG viewers could name 1 player.

Meanwhile, NCAA final is one of handful of most watched events on tv, and the majority of KCRG viewers are interested in the game, the local kid playing, and the local people who have a kid playing. Tough call for the editor.

And to the troll putting down Ellis, f off. You probably only know him because you were in trouble, and it ain't his fault you screwed up. Mrs. Paige has been a volunteer tutor at the center for abused women and children for about a decade, does great work for a great cause. Out of control ego people? girl pleeeze.

Mr. and Mrs Paige, and their standout son, are awesome stories KCRG is correct to trumpet.

don't know the kid but the one person I know that is friends with the family has nothing but good things to say about him. Hangs out with neighborhood kids when he is home for holidays etc. Nice.

Of course our local media should cover him. Would be strange if they didn't.

If there is anything suspect at all it would be the problems with the NC program. There was obviously some cheating going on there. Hopefully Paige wasn't involved but who knows.

Lots of articles about Clemmons back in Lansing after beating MSU and throughout the year. I'm sure there were news segments, too. Some of you need to grow up and move on. Why wouldn't they cover a hometown kid in the Final Four? Just because UNC may be in trouble. May not have anything to do with Paige.
As a 3 time Academic All American I assume he has no academic problems.

They are a smart family. Students at UNC & ISU.

Did you conveniently forget to mention that she played (and attended) for the University of Wisconsin for four years? Guessing that isu was not a first choice for either.

[You do not have to go to such lengths to prove your obsession with all things HR related... but, it does do wonders for your self-proclaimed 'not a fan of isu' status.]

When is the last time a local Iowa kid was playing in the Final Four? I believe it was 2003 (Collison and Hinrich for KU). Before that..1980?

Is it really that perplexing why the media in Cedar Rapids would give coverage to a local kid playing in the Final Four? This seems pretty common sense to me. The amount of butt hurt over this makes no sense and reeks of sour grapes.

The coverage (by channel 9) is a little over the top and has been for Marcus throughout his career ever since he decided to go to NC. I don't ever recall it being like this for Bohannon when he opted for WI or even Pirschbacher, and others. It is definitely at another level. Personally I turn the channel. I get it, Marcus is/has done well.

Did Zack Bohannon get some coverage in 2014 when he went to the FF in Dallas?

Yes, I meant to bring that up. KCRG did a really good story on Zach and his path to UW when they made the FF and that was for a kid that didn't really even play very much.

This is what he was known for, not his play. What are they going to say? Local guy who sits on the bench for Wisconsin takes selfies with everyone and their brother

So Paige won zero national titles and may not even get drafted. Was that the plan when he committed to UNC?

Well, he certainly took advantage of his time at UW. Graduated with a degree in Econ., A Masters degree and was reportedly half way to an MBA.

Absolutely nothing wrong with what he did, just saying there is a reason he wasn't covered the same way as Paige locally when it comes to basketball

The best part about all of this is the sour grapes of Iowa fans... the kid left here and got the chance to play for a NATIONAL TITLE. I'm almost 95% positive he would've never had that opportunity at Iowa State or Iowa.

He made the right choice plain and simple. North Carolina was his DREAM school. If anything, the Iowa news media outlets have not covered this enough.

All-American on the court, Academic All-American, great family, good kid. We need feel good stories. Say what you want about North Carolina and their integrity but don't throw Marcus in the mix 'just because.'

Wrong
Know the dad - he's a ego also. People in CR still laugh at Marcus crying during junior games from losing and his dad.
Didn't the dad give Marcus the ole "texas red shirt" just for sports?
RE: Clemmons/Sapp from other post - he had no chance to go to MSU - they had no room for him.
Marcus could have put IOWA on his chest - he fled.

What a stupid clueless post.!

Why don't you just go away? The kid decided in 7th grade that he wanted to go to North Carolina and it turned out he was good enough that they offered. Sure, it would have been fun to have him at Iowa. We might have made the Sixteen. I've got no gripe with him.
The thread is about the media coverage of him, not that he chose NC. I agree with the OP. It's completely over the top. Dochterman's Twitter timeline last night was a Paige lovefest. It makes Iowans seem extremely lame that we feel we have to continue to trumpet kids who have nothing to do with the state anymore. Are we required to like Ashton Kutcher movies too?

Great post. Like I said before. Nothing against him, but he left. He chose to leave. Cover stories about Iowa. Heck, an Iowa Spring Practice story would be better.

Would you guys have the same thoughts if a local kid went to Harvard or Stanford and was awarded the Pulizter prize? Is it just a sports thing?

Personally, I like seeing where local kids go and I love when they are successful outside of the confines of the state of Iowa. I enjoy reading about success stories of Iowa born people who have gone on to do great things. This has nothing to do with sports for me.

If you dont like the coverage, it's really easy to one click people and unfollow on Twitter or just simply ignore the links and move on with your life.

We are lame because we want to root for our own to be successful in life? Iowa is a proud state and I'm proud of the people we produce. I dont give a rats a$$ where 18-21 year old kids go to college and nobody is requiring you to like Marcus Paige.

And lastly, you're wrong about one thing. Marcus will always have something to do with the state of Iowa.

Exactly,

I mentioned before in the Quad Cities Chasson Randle got a lot of coverage when he was at Stanford, Ethan Happ although not exactly a QC kid gets a fair amount of coverage.

Certainly similar to a year earlier (than Paige) when Roy successfully recruited J.P. Tokoto from Menomonee Falls, WI. Yes, you wish the outcome would have been different (and wonder what if?) but if the player in question represents the state well, best to him.

Did he play?

Played sparingly both his years at Wisconsin. I don't recall that he got in the Kentucky game in Dallas.
Other than 2 games each of the next 4 seasons, looking forward to seeing Jordan in black and gold.

Some of you people need to grow up and have a history lesson! Paige is not the highest rated player in metro history. I know some of you know it alls have never heard of Al Lorenzen ( Kennedy grad) he was considered the number 1 prospect in the nation his senior year by some outlets. Hell I think Russ Millard (Washington High)was rated as high as Paige.
