Coyotes running around Chicago, even occasionally downtown, have been a thing for over a decade at least.

Coyotes? Or red fox? I have seen fox in person a couple of times in the warehouse area not too far from O'Hare. There could be coyotes too, but I have seen the foxes and heard others talk about them.
 
Huh. OK, well how about that. Normally, coyotes and fox do not co-exist well, coyotes will dominate the fox. I wonder if the coyotes have overrun the foxes there then. I guess it would have been 6 or 7 years ago since I last saw fox in that region.

This could very well be. This article points out that the males attack dogs while in mating season. Also says the population has doubled to around 4,000 since they started studying them.
