Crowd Expectations - NIT

The opportunity to take a young child to a game doesn't come along very often. It's fun to expose your child to crowds and cheering for the home team. I've never taken a 2 year old to a game, but more power to someone that wants to. Future Hawk fan recruiting never stops!
So it's a good idea? Got it.

To each his own. If your torture is you have to sit next to a two year old, your problems are few my friend. ;)

Ha, no kidding. I know all kids are different and maybe we are very lucky with ours, but it's kind of blowing my mind with why this is a big deal to some.

Serious question, you guys get to watch the entire game and your two year old doesn't distract you or those around you during the game?

The reason I ask is because I am familiar with two year olds and I've been to several games where I've sat next to younger children.

Not saying it's impossible, but two hours is an eternity for a child to sit still.
I take the 15 month old for walks and play time around the top. There is 2-4 of us some nights there to do that.

I've got three kids and have brought all of them to every Iowa State game that wasn't an 8:00 tip. We really enjoy it but to each their own for sure.

I guess I'm there to watch the game, not go on walks. When I want to take my kids on walks and play around I'd do that at my house or at the park where there are toys and items designed for a two year old. 2-4 of you out of 10,000 + people doesn't exactly scream normal behavior at a sporting event either.

I can take my two year old to a lot places, CHA, the movies, work and more. It doesn't mean it's a good idea.

The game time was changed to 8? This ****ing sucks. Everyone hates the 8pm starts, and the earlier tip was a big reason why we decided to take the kids.
Yeah and we are traveling 4 hrs one way. Will make a long day at work thursday

You know how kids like Adam Woodbury, Joe Wieskamp, Cordell Pemsl, Ryan Kriener all grew up wanting to be hawks? It helps if they attend games as far back as they remember...

Also, judging by your response, you don't have kids. You don't have to empathize, I know it's a lost art in the age of the interwebz, but these games are billed as family friendly.

So on the schedule page it still says 6pm. So its actually been moved to 8pm? Wasn't driving from KC, but was looking forward to watching it live. Go to work really early in the am, so I guess I'll have to record it and watch it Thursday.

Please tell me how many things Woodbury, Pemsl, Weiskamp or anyone in the world remember doing anything at two years old..... I'll wait.

Personally, I wouldn't go if I couldn't watch the majority of the game.

But just because it's not a good idea for you to bring your kid to CHA, doesn't mean that applies to everyone. There are plenty of kids that can sit through a two hour game and be perfectly fine.

Um...well...she has a lot of fun being there. We get to watch the game live and support the team. It's not a big deal if it's a 6pm game, 8pm is a different story. You must not be familiar with two year olds...

We are still taking the kids since it's spring break. If it wasn't we would be returning our tickets as well. 8pm too late for kids.

I just laugh that they changed our game. Why not make CUSE play at freaking 9pm eastern time?? Iowa and SD should of told ESPN to shove it and started at 6pm. Makes no sense to move our game for them.

And if you were responding to me, you'd be wrong again. In fact, I have a two year old right now who loves everything to do with anything that involves a ball. He loves sports. When it comes to watching sports, he lasts about two minutes before losing interest and that's being generous. That's what two year olds do with limited attention spans.

Glad to see so many on the board going! Live in central Illinois so too far for weekday game for me.

Bring a victory home!

Go hawks!

I don't care either who goes to the game. The more the merrier. I'm there to watch the Hawks. The PSU game I had a 350# man taking up half of my seat the entire game. Dude couldn't even get out of our seats without a struggle. I still saw the entire game and enjoyed it.

You're never going to convince me that the most well behaved two year old will be able to sit in a chair and watch a two hour basketball game and not lose interest. Thus distracting you and/or others around you from the game.

Again, we find an unoccupied area to sit so there's no one around us. And it's really not that hard between two people to keep a two year old occupied enough to enjoy the majority of the game. Is it perfect? Of course not. But I'd be just as distracted (if not more) if we were at home watching on TV. Believe what you want though...

Of course you don't have total focus on the game. But it's enough for me, and I enjoy having my kids with me. I don't need absolute focus on the game to enjoy the experience.

I drove to KCfod the big 12 tourney last weekend with my wife and 3 kids, including a 4 week old baby. I had a balll and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Took my kids to the UNI Dome and Carver when they were little. No problems, they liked the noise and all the stuff around them. Both places we let them get up and run for a little bit and then distracted them w/some food.

Kinnick was a different story. My daughter lasted till midway through 2nd quarter then it was time to go.

It's only a problem if you make it one. If your kid hands you a book and wants you to read it while watching a game on TV do you stop watching and read it or continue watching the game? To for you and your family you can't handle both. If you can't take a break to tend to your kids needs your priorities are ****ed up. You should stay home, good choice for you.

2-4 people screams abnormal behavior, how so? I see parents there with grandparents, a pair of couples with kids. You've got a lot excuses to keep yourself away. You know best what you can handle.

Me too. Some people are such f*^#%+g bitter ass people they just can't help themselves.

Seriously. What a dousche. Staying home for him would be best for everyone.

Good one, but if you're going to insult someone at least spell it correctly.

When my kid shows no interest in watching five minutes an Iowa game on TV, I'm not going to run out and buy him an Iowa ticket, no. When my kid is distracting in my living room, they are only distracting me. Not others around me who paid money to watch a basketball game and not my kids. I also have this DVR thing which allows me to pause and rewind live TV. It's pretty sweet.

Yes, two to four people out of a crowd of 10,000 plus doing something is not the norm.

Forgive me attempting to define the proper way to determine 'normal' behavior... Your theory about what is 'normal' really makes no sense unless every one of those 10,000 people also has a 2 year old they chose not to bring to the game.

Go anyway. The kids will remember it forever. Much more important than a couple extra hours of sleep. Those are the fun memories driving to and from the game with them and to see them yell and cheer at the game, take fsmily pics together.....thats what its about. Screw sleep

I've taken my 3 year old to many music festivals and concerts in her short life. Does just fine, in fact most of the time we want to go do something, we bring our kids with. People just have to deal with it, or daddy gets mean.

We took our kids everywhere. Every kid is different. Some kids will do great others not so much. We tried to expose our kids to everything. Surprisingly they did great at museums from an early age but not sporting events. Go figure.

Uptight 10 had a bad experience sitting next to kids at a game so it's all bad. I don't even think he has kids just BS us. We always leave home with some travel toys. The "only play in designated areas parks and at home" made me laugh.

My son was 2 almost 3 for the Dayton NIT game. Sat through it just fine, even standing and cheering. Not every kid is the same. And even though they may not remember it doesn't mean it's not a good idea. We even had people offer to switch seats because he couldn't see.

Some kids you might get by with taking them to a game, others you definitely could not. Unless you don't give a crap what others around you think, which would make you an idiot. Most little twerps I am around i would definitely not take them to a basketball game. You have to remember only you the parent loves your kid.
