D.J. Johnson offered by LSU

Goes to show you the difference in talent between the two schools. For one team he is a prized recruit and one of the top recruits in the class and for the other team he is a fall back recruit and one they hope they don't get.

One school is located in Iowa, the other in the deep South. It's not that hard to figure out.

Not worried...........OL and DB's

And last because of contractual obligation the big ten has to send 7 teams, this is a good year for us to go to NYC because next year we will be playing in 2019 somewhere super warm and in a super meaningful game (if we can get some LB's to step up next year)
I think it's kinda cool to go to the Pinstripe Bowl and NYC. It's definitely a different experience that I think the kids will enjoy, plus, it's great exposure to recruits in the area. I think 'we' wanted to go this bowl over the Fosters Farm game. I agree that if the LB's step up (and I think the talents there) and with our schedule next year, it should be a good year. I mean the D should be really good if the LB's do and if Jackson comes back (which I believe he will). We'll have 7 experienced D linemen (plus I think Gholston and Nixon fight for time), 4 safeties (3 that have numerous starts) with experience, and with Jackson, we'll have 4 corners with starting experience. Come on LBs!
P.S.- I would bet that the reserve LB's will get the majority of the bowl practice reps up until game week. They like to use the bowl practice time to see and develop some kids, and you always see some kids pop up in the spring that the coaches say really advanced during bowl practices. It would be nice if we could jump all over BC and get some kids on the field. Would be a huge confidence builder going into spring.

I wasn't complaining at all. Just pointing out the difference is all. LSU is an embarrassment of riches just like a lot of other schools with a ton of in state talent.
Pollard it is!

Should hurt a blood curdling scream out of Ames any minute, that sounds like Kermit the Frog getting his sac caught in a zipper.

I would let everybody know if LSU offered me too. Until there is reason to doubt Johnson's commitment, take it as a sign that we got a solid player

I saw a recent clip of Nixon. He was asked about the Alabama offer. He was very excited and proud of it (who wouldn't be), and also very anxious to join his new teammates in Iowa City.

If he takes an official visit we're safe. Baton Rouge is the worst American city I've visited.

When you get off campus the cops are thick. It is one ugly place.
Yeah because no other recruits have felt differently. Oh yeah, wait, they did.

Keokuk is on my bucket list. Been a long time since I've been to Ft. Madison and only remember the ominous prison.
I am in Keokuk tonight at a hotel , ate dinner at the Hawkeye. Working in the Ft.Madison area tomorrow then back to Ankeny. Keokuk has really went to crap. I graduated from here in 1972 and moved away. Still some family around in this depressed crap hole. Ft.Madison is just as bad.

Is Tip n Buds still there? That was the #1 tourist attraction in town iirc! Will admit that there were a couple of towny cuties that I would have shots with back in the day. I had to travel their for biz in the mid 90’s. I can’t imagine how anyone could live there.

I think you forgot to include improvement in our special teams game of punting and punt returns. Hope Gersonde can win back the job and have a better overall year. It was not usually good news when a true freshman is called upon to make an impact for any program. Said could be said of AJ Epenesa. Another spring ball seasoning could really help solidfy those spots.

Punt return should be wide open and IKM, Trey Creamer, Samson Evans and Tyrone Tracy could be names we hear as leading candidates. I liked MVB but he was not elusive after a punt catch, if he did catch it. Personally, Desmond King always poised a threat to the opponents and was a reason punters did not not try to long punt (out kick) their coverage. Having a player who could elude coverage tackles and adjust field starting point for the positive are worth their weight in gold. Keep ISM of kick off. Fielding a punt takes a great deal of confidence and sure handedness (focus and moxie).

yeah, that has to be a big priority for next year. Fix the punting special teams play.

Good point on special teams- mostly our punting game. Kicking game was pretty good this year, but when we are good we have good special teams.....I am hoping we will not be punting next year much :)

Well it was fine when I was growing up. Still had about a 17,000 population just in town. Tip N Buds is gone and now it called Dr.Getwells. Hawkeye Steak House is decent and Angelinis Pizza is awesome. The Cellar is still open also. It is a shame what has happened to the town.

Yup. The Hawkeye is tasty. Real good salad bar back then. Descent steaks. Also, that steamboat restaurant on the river was a cool place (name?). I golfed at the Keokuk CC a few times as well and its a fun coarse. I eagled the 3rd hole circa '96. Also went boating w/ folks down there north of the dame so it ain't all bad, bunch of chicks in bikini's drinking miller lite outta the can! Didn't mean to rip your home town man. People are very nice!! Always a silver lining.
