Dale Jones Granted 6th Year

Hawkeye forward has 2 years of eligibility remaining

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa forward Dale Jones has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA, UI men’s basketball head coach Fran McCaffery announced Thursday. Jones now has two years of eligibility remaining.

Jones (6-foot-7, 227 pounds) suffered a second ACL injury to his right knee in three years on Dec. 1, 2015, six games into his junior season. The native of Waterloo, Iowa, averaged 5.5 points, while shooting 45 percent from 3-point range (9-of-20) for the Hawkeyes. He also averaged three rebounds prior to the season-ending ACL injury.

Jones suffered his first knee injury prior to his sophomore year at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas. He transferred to the Hawkeyes after his redshirt sophomore season (2015).

So how does this impact our 2017 recruiting? My thought would be we still look to take one more anticipating a transfer or we explore the walk on possibilties for a couple of hundred more threads.

Personally I see this as very good news as the three/four slots will be filled for a while with Baer, Wagner, Uhl, Pemsel, and Jones.
Cook and Kriener are our fives unless we find a true big.

Moss, Conner, Williams, J. Bo, Dailey, and B.E. give us options at the point and shooting guard.

Do we look for a Big, a point, or best available now?

Does anyone know how Dale Jones Rehab is going? Is he able to practice yet?

Does anyone know how Dale Jones Rehab is going? Is he able to practice yet?

Pat Harty tweeted that Dale was cleared for everything but contact. If that's the case, he would be able to train, just no banging down low in a pickup game.

He should be in Phase 4 or 5 of recovery. Meaning full range of motion. He should be running, shooting and other drills. And some workouts with the coaches. That's moving along at a good recovery pace.

With over 3 months before media day. He should be ready to go full speed ahead by the time practice officially starts. Good for Dale! And good for Iowa. Our JUNIOR Hawkeye will bring valuable experience to the floor next year - At the start of the season. Sweet.
