Dan Dennis Writes Another Chapter, Moving on from HWC

i love the fact that Dan is so open and needs to feel a change every so often in his life. He is a great influence on the young guys and he is always an asset for the lightweights in the room. I am sure he will be back again... when the time suits him and the feel is right... seems to be a throw back to the drifter kind of lifestyle that hardly exists anymore... a true free spirit. I say THANK YOU DANIEL DENNIS and best of luck....and we will see you when ....we see you

What a great kid he is. I went to Rio and stayed with his family down there. He's like no one I've ever met and his family is awesome. He'll skate through town and punish some guys in the room now and then. The dude is as real as it gets.

I'm honestly concerned a bit for him. He's such a free spirit, he even mentioned not having a plan. I don't want him living out of a car when he's 67 years old. It happens.

I just hope he has a good life, one that is successful (however he defines that).

One thing you have to remember about Dan Dennis. He didn't live in his truck because he had to. He lived in his truck because he wanted to. As the quote from one of his T-shirts said... "Not all who wander are lost" That IS Dan Dennis.

Good point. But I still don't want him living out of his car when he is 67.... :)

If he is living out of a truck in Santa Barbara when he is 67, I'm guess that is better than most people retire. Or, you can just work at a desk until your full retirement age and hope to live a few years til you die. I think the dude has it more figured out than most.

Trust me, I work with a lot of people every day and their money (or lack of).

There are people that chose to live a certain "carefree" life in their younger days and now when they are older they don't have a pot to piss in. It ain't fun being old and broke and many would choose to change the past if possible.

Once again, I just hope the best for his future. Great Hawk and representative of the USA.

Dan Dennis and Ray Brinzer will always be two of my all time favorite Hawks. They both seem to have that personality that allows life to roll on and live each day like it is your last. Kudos to Dan and I wish you nothing but the best.

Something tells me the people you are working with aren't Olympic caliber wrestlers and aren't capable of dealing with stressful or difficult situations as well as Dan Dennis. He'll be fine.

The fact that so many of you are acting super concerned just shows how weird our society is with our obsession with a 50 hour a week job with 2 weeks of paid vacation (no option for unpaid vacation), and huge mortgages with the goal of attaining as many possessions as possible.

One of my favorite quotes of all time:

"There are thousands and thousands of people out there living lives of quiet, screaming desperation who work long, hard hours at jobs they hate, to enable them to buy things they don’t need to impress people they don’t like.”
-Nigel Marsh-

I know not exact same, and two completely different people, but was it Paki O'Meara who lived out of a van after football and college were over?

Define "stress" and "difficult situations"? Because I can guarantee you I've worked with people that have dealt with more "stress" and "difficult situations" than Daniel Dennis.

Wrestling in the Olympics? No.

Stress and difficult situations? Yes.

......stress and the physically difficult situation of living out of a truck or living freely without some safety net, dwelling, or career.

Not trying to compare people's personal lives. (deaths, poverty, abusiveness) I just think the concern here is wacky. He's living life the way he wants to live it and he's already come back from that lifestyle to be an Olympian. Bunch of moms on here or what? =P

This. I love that quote.

Me too. Many kill themselves accumulating millions, retire, spend next to none of it, die and then the family fight over it. There are two sides to every coin.

Can anyone confirm if Dan has a 401k... But seriously, good luck to DD on all future endeavors.

I would guess DD is about one of the last dudes we need to "worry" about. He's living life his way and I bet he comes out better than most of us.

It's not like he's living a fast and hard life. Guy has a solid head on his shoulders and is an elite level wrestler...who in their right mind would bet against a guy like that when it comes to "life"???

Best of luck DD, thanks for your efforts, and don't be a stranger to Iowa City.

You're just saying that based on your recent near death experience involving almost getting pulled into a hole in the ice. ;)
