How many times do we get burned and CJ takes a huge hit because of Croston?

We need a big shake-up on the offensive line. We couldn't run the ball against Rutgers and they gave up 400 yards to O$U?

BTW, the idiots calling out Kirk are fools. Its the players, not Kirk. Iowa could be 5-0 right now and none of the fools would be calling out Kirk.

That's football !! Ha

I completely agree with you, the line needs a shake up. I was actually thinking Welsh to LT. Last year he moved out to RT for a few games and looked very good out there on that side.

Needs to be a shakeup because this isn't working. Slide Welsh to LT and let Croston battle out the guard spot in practice. You cannot leave that kid at LT, it's not fair to him or Iowa.

I'd even try Boone again, but Welsh or Daniels would probably be best, especially with the D's from Michigan and Connie coming up.

There has to be a change at Left Tackle.....cannot play QB when your left tackle is being moved against his will back into the QB and worst of all its his blindside.......people say Beathard can't feel pressure but you don't need to feel it when you can see it coming right at you. If there is not a change made at LT Stanley will be in soon due to Beathard's health.

Something needs to change on the offensive line, for sure. Maybe the defensive line as well. We gots issues.

Daniels doesn't have the lateral movement to play tackle especially with his knee issues. The truth is that the lack of OL development isn't going to get fixed anytime soon.

Daniels got beat bad multiple times.

Didn't daniels play LT last year in the Illinois game? Didn't he get smoked a lot last year in that game??

Someone said that majority of this Oline is guards. There are no "true" tackles, its a group of guards playing the different positions. If you noticed yesterday Croston got beat for 4 sacks. The same player owned him and the kid got a season worth of sacks in one game.

Ole Brian Ferencz is going to have to get his thinking cap on and change the line. If they continue to stick with it, we are screwed.

It would be a mistake in this case to move a guy from his natural, and preferred, position even to try to correct the gaping deficit they have at tackle. Daniels played some at tackle last year if I recall, and it didn't go well.

I'd rather see a combination of other guys getting a shot and changing the formations. But, what I expect to see is more Croston and more CJB taking a pounding.

Tackle spot is a very tough place to play heck Brandin Schreff had bad days too. Brandon graded out as the top RG in the NFL last week

Welsh stepped in at LT last year at NW and Iowa had their most impressive ground attack of the year. Not sure why they're hesitant to put Welsh back out there.

Who is it that has the credentials to "shake up" the o-line? Can Daniels just proclaim that I am the new starting left tackle?

Patty Fitz says this was the first time this season a team didn't use some max protect or chip their de's. Not sure where the issue lies with that.

That's one of the problems with the coaching staff, doesn't matter how much a guy screws up they won't take them out for a few plays. We need to let #2s get some reps that way they get better and keep everyone fresh.

That'S for SURE! CAP AND SON ARE THE O-LINE PROS? IS IT THE CHICKEN OR THE EGG? BABY OR BATH WATER HUH?

I think the lack of chipping is due in part to the lack of depth at TE. Our two TE sets have produced very little compared to last season. They need to just give Fant some snaps at the least he serves as another receiving threat.....

They need to figure something out. Leaving them out on an island hasn't worked well

I think a shake up will happen. Boone was our starting LT to start last year, maybe move him back out and start Render inside.

Lack of depth in recruiting Tackles....you need length and athleticism at the position. Guys like Croston can always slide to OG. It is hard to move a Guard to OT. Historically, I think KF has offerred to many undersized guards and not recruited enough Tackles.

You guys seem to forget how bad Boone was at LT last year if you want to put him there again.

And, I don't see a "full throttle" team effort all the time.

A coach I know used to say "Pursuit without passion is meaningless". I think this might exemplify Iowa's efforts, especially after having watched some other teams get after it on both offense and defense this weekend. No urgent, joyful ass-kicking attitude.

(He recruited them).

My question on the OL is - why at the snap do they automatically start taking steps backwards?? why not push the dl forwards?????

Throw one of the Paulsen boys at LT. They look like they could wrestle grizzly bears and have fun doing it.

Pass blocking from:

http://www.nflrush.com/story/usa-football-ol-pass-blocking-3-step-2/83

When pass blocking it is important to remember that it is an aggressive block. You must push with your hands and punch out into the defenders chest in three step pass protection.

For an inside rusher (usually a player head up or on the inside shoulder), it is important that you step inside with your inside foot on the snap of the ball. As you take this step, both hands should come up to the center of your chest in position to fire out and stop the charge of the defensive player. Next, shuffle across the formation and follow your man and punch again if necessary.

For an outside rusher (usually a player lined up on the outside shoulder or wide outside), the first step should be a kick step back with your outside foot and a slight turn of your body to the outside of the formation. Once again, as you take this step, both hands should come up to the center of your chest in position to fire out and stop the charge of the defensive player. Next should then shuffle back off the line of scrimmage.

Good point. Myers was there for almost the whole year. I know he had a tough game against Calhoun in Big Ten title game but didn't hear anytone complaining when we were 12-0

In this modern age of recruiting services, multi million dollar facilities, and high paid coaches responsible for recruiting, it is inexcusable for a Power 5 conference team to have a walk-on starting at arguably the most important offensive line position. Iowa's history of putting linemen in the NFL is further proof that this should not happen. CJB has been blindsided on at least six times since the BIG10 championship and its only a matter of time before he is seriously injured.

It is still recruiting no matter how advanced the technology. You hit on some and miss on some. Ryan Ward was a highly recruited 4 star T prospect coming out of high school and he is currently listed as Croston's backup. There is nothing wrong with having a walk-on playing LT. There is a problem when a walk-on is playing LT poorly.

Croston is having a tough year!! Not Iowa's next great lineman!!!!

However, Kirk is the guy putting the players on the field.

CJ's mental clock on pass plays needs to go off MUCH sooner!
