DAVE HAIGHT TO SERVE AS HONORARY CAPTAIN

IOWA CITY, Iowa - - FormerUniversity of Iowa defensive lineman Dave Haight will serve as honorary captain Saturday when No. 10 Iowa hosts Iowa State at Kinnick Stadium (6:42 p.m., BTN) in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series football game.

Haight joined the Iowa football program from Dyersville, Iowa. As a senior, he was a first-team All-America nose guard for the Hawkeyes in 1988. He was named second-team All-America and Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year in 1987, and was a three-time first-team All-Big Ten selection from 1986-88.

Haight helped Iowa win a Big Ten title in 1985 and advance to the 1986 Rose Bowl -- the first of four bowl game appearances for Haight. The Hawkeyes finished with a record of 35-12 in Haight’s four seasons (1985-88). He was named to Iowa’s All-Time Team in 1989, along with defensive linemen such as Alex Karras and Mark Bortz.

Haight ranks 11th on Iowa’s all-time tackle chart with 346 tackles, the most by a Hawkeye defensive lineman. Last week, Haight was inducted into the UI Varsity Club Hall of Fame.

Haight will accompany the Iowa captains to the center of the field for Saturday’s pregame coin toss. He will also be with the Hawkeyes in the locker room before and after the game.

Was at a funeral this morning and both Haight boys were there...that's two large individuals that I'm glad I didn't have to face.
