Dec 27 Injury Updates: Traore is 100%!!! He had a “bad ankle sprain” on Nov 26 & was SUPPOSED to be back by Dec 10. Koch was hospitalized?

It has now been 31 days since Traore’s injury. Fran said today that he was 100% and will play Dec 30 vs New Hampshire.

The Traore Injury Timeline:

Tues Nov 26: suffered bad right ankle sprain in the 1st Half vs USC Upstate

6 days pass.

Mon Dec 2: Fran said Traore would be a game time decision vs Northwestern on Dec 3.

Tues Dec 3: Traore was NOT AVAILABLE vs Northwestern (80-79 win)

Sat Dec 7: Traore was NOT AVAILABLE at Michigan (85-83 loss)

Tues Dec 10: Fran was asked if Traore would return vs Iowa State; Fran replied, “I think.”

Thurs Dec 12: The pregame availability report for Iowa State was clean, which meant Traore was expected to be available. Traore did pregame warm ups and played 14 minutes for 6 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist. Iowa lost 89-80.

Sun Dec 15:
Traore went thru pregame warmups but was NOT AVAILABLE vs New Orleans (104-57 win). The UI categorized his issue as “ankle soreness.”

Thurs Dec 19: Fran was asked if Traore would be available for the Dec 21 Utah game. Fran responded with “I don’t know; not too optimistic.” Fran was then asked if Traore suffered a setback; Fran responded with “I guess,” followed by a look on his face, hand gestures and silence. NO ONE FROM THE MEDIA followed up & asked if Traore was medically cleared to play or not AND IF HE WAS, what the issue was (see video below).

Sat Dec 21: Traore (ankle) was listed as NOT AVAILBLE for the Utah game (Iowa won 95-88). A fan at the game said he noticed a SIGNIFICANT LIMP for Traore (but no boot).

Mon Dec 30:
Iowa’s next game (vs New Hampshire).

Here, again, is the 6 minutes from Thurs Dec 19 of Fran discussing the Dec 21 Utah game. At the 3:09 mark, Fran is asked about Traore. What does the look on his face, his hand gestures and then silence say, if anything?

On Dec 12 he played 14 minutes for 6 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist in an 89-80 loss to Clown U.

He was injured on Nov 26

Will the 3 guard lineup work come B1G play?

Koch has a sweet looking stroke; he hustles, too, which is fun to watch. I hope he gets meaningful minutes in B1G play. He picked Iowa over Wisconsin & Purdue; would love to see him hit some big shots against them.
The defense and ball movement are a lot better with our 3-guard lineup. We need to firm up our interior defense and rebounding, but it sucked at least as bad before the change. Right now, Koch gets lost on defense. He is going to be a major contributor, but I don't think it is going to be this year. We agree that he still needs to get some minutes, but it is going to be reduced, if Traore's minutes go up. I know he is the team leader, but Payton's minutes probably need to drop a little too. No one needs to average more than 33-34 min/game IMO. Dix might be the player who needs the most minutes, because we lose on both ends of the court when he is out.

I’m good with the Thelwell, Harding, Dix, Sandfort, and Feeman starting lineup for now. Hoping Treore can stay healthy but this month off is a setback as he lost valuable minutes getting in game shape and working in live action with his teammates. Hope Fran gets him a lot of minutes against UNH. Even then he’ll be behind. Putting him in against Big Ten talent after a month off will be a challenge.
