Delay of Game at the end

Why would you give up 5 yards for one extra second at the end when you have 3 time outs ? I mean there is plenty more to blame for the loss, but why give them a free 5 yards ?

It’s not like the punter needed the space , and even if it became a touch back that would have been fine also . I don’t understand why Kirk would do that .

It’s 5 less yards your gunners need to cover.
It’s 5 less yards of distance to trade for hang time.
It’s can (and turned out to actually be) be 5 more yards for them to have to go to beat you.

Agreed….i have never ever seen a coach make that call….there would be no reason to bank a TO either…. 🥲

I’m sure KF jotted something down in his pad. “Took delay penalty instead of TO. Those 5 yards ended up really hurting.” Maybe he’ll refer back to that and make a different decision when he’s coaching Iowa in 2041.

on top of it our punter only kicked it 36 yards to the 20 yard line. It was all a mess unless the coaches told our punter to punt it high so no run back.

Part of getting old is losing your mental capicty to understand that your punter isn't Tory Taylor anymore and has been rainbow kicking punts all game for 30 yards.
