What is clear to me is that the Iowa WRs, outside of MVB, are a team weak spot. I seriously doubt the coaches would have the confidence to throw Smith the ball in a crucial situation. Scheel... I will give him the benefit of the doubt because he simply hasn't played much. But if a guy can't get or stay healthy, he's not much of an asset.

It's very puzzling to me that Iowa can't recruit an above average WR because the Hawks have had some very good qbs over the years.

He quit with cause. Same as CJ was about to do until the pressure was put on and coach was forced to make a qb change.
There is never "cause" to quit....Willies wouldn't have helped stop the NDSU running game and he sure as hell wouldn't have helped our offense gain more than 37 yards on the ground (especially since he doesn't run block). You want to complain about those 2 things from this Saturday, sure I get that. But this whole Willies things is just stupid....I will also wait until November to celebrate or hit the panic button....it sucked ass we lost this Saturday, but holy smokes their is a ton of football left, haven't even played a conference game yet. Georgia almost lost to Nichols, Wisconsin beats LSU and almost loses to Georgia State, Tennessee struggles with Ohio, and the list goes on and on....not an isolated thing at Iowa and life goes on

Very true except the reason our D got carved was due to the offense not moving the ball. I think Willies would have been a great weapon for us. My post title was poor choice and I tried editing it but couldn't figure that out. I still think we will win a lot of games.

Lets keep talking about Willies. Great idea, OP. Very constructive thread after a loss.
As if all the other threads on here are constructive. Why don't you start a few threads with the positives of the game? I saw you try putting some of the blame on the fans. Really smart.

As long as Davis runs the offense, this offense will be average at very best. Still the worst OC in the game.

The reason he probably wasn't playing was because he didn't know the playbook and wasn't smart enough to learn it. Which is why a lot of are more productive Receivers were former quarterbacks.

I'm a big KF fan but as I said at the time Willis left it was handled wrong. A championship coach will find a way to keep the difference makers he needs. He'll do it without the kid even knowing he's doing it.

I see you are ignoring the question. What "cause" did Willies have? He was playing just as much as every other WR not named Martin-Manley or Tevaun Smith.

So once again how did Kirk "force" him out?

I've been able to come to grips with a college coach telling a kid who quit to find another team, yes.

And he really didn't even tell him to find another team. He gave him options and rejoining the team was one. It just was a long and difficult road to get back to being on the team and on good graces. He wasn't willing to work for the team then so it shows he has little work ethic or loyalty

I wish there was another thumbs up button for this post.. Two thumbs way up.. Gotta keep ur talent and if that means helping a kid thru rough times sobeit.. That helps build good player and good men., you'll notice those kind of coaches by seeing the past players that have excelled coming back to the program weather it be on the sidelines during games or talking to current players and vouching for that coach...

I'm as disappointed and frustrated as the majority of Iowa fans. I find it interesting, however, how this loss (as bad as it was) leads to talk about former players ... and coaches running them off, etc. Willies decided he didn't want to be at Iowa. Simple as that. Willies was not going to change the outcome of the game. We could have Jerry Rice (in his prime) at WR and we still would have lost that game. NDSU dominated us - on both sides of the ball. The O and D lines were manhandled. The better team won.

While I wasn't happy about Willies leaving I doubt he would have made a difference with NDSU lines pushing both of our lines all over the field.

Does anybody else find it ironic that some of these posters were pretty much absent throughout the regular season last year and the 1st 2 weeks this year and boom all of a sudden they think we want to hear their pessimistic outlook.....misery in fact does love company

Willies will be playing on Sundays. Stubborn KF ran him off by not letting him play, even though he was the most talented receiver on the field. This won't ever change. Case closed.

He was close with CJ and would have been a huge weapon to go with Vandenberg.

It is time for Ferentz to give a longer leash to the play makers. That has been the case for his whole tenure and I know it won't change.

Based on what you just wrote, you clearly know nothing about coach Ferentz. Justifying the means to an end has NEVER been part of his behavior. Your opinion about Willies' situation is equally uninformed.

Guys, guys, i think what Championhawk was trying to say is that it was KKFsduty to compromise his values and expectations of his players to keep potential playmakers here. It doesnt matter if the kid hated the team atmosphere or other players being pissed at preferential treatment being thrown Willies way. What matters is that KF let go a potential playmaker. Heck KF shouldve gotten down on his knees the day Willies quit.

For a grand total of 144 yards.

At pass happy, play absolutely zero defense Texas Tech, Willies in three games has all of one start, six receptions and an average of 48 ypg. If he is destined for the NFL, he better get going because time is not his ally.
