I long for the good old days when a Hawkeye victory...

This is true. It's not either/or. Everyone has to belong in some category, which tends to resonate with some form of extremism, nowadays apparently. I really don't understand why people can't understand that you can be a fan of Iowa but not KF. Really, any other aspect pertains to this as well. People take it as a direct assault far too often both ways when we all love the same team.

We do this shit for everything and it's not helpful in creating unity.
Exactly right.

On top of that, there are many things that I am complimentary of KF on. His approach to offense is just not one of them.

I don’t know, Commings had one decent season and a couple upsets, and recruited the guys Fry turned into winners.
If by decent you mean his best season, 1976 which was 5-6 with a 7-6 upset at Penn State, who themselves were a 7-5 team. We might have beaten a mediocre UCLA team at home somewhere in those 5 forgettable years. When Fry finally won in 1981 there weren't but a couple of Comming's players still around...

Same brother. I get it. I don't question your love for Iowa as others do. I don't judge you for being frustrated, we all are. We live through this team vicariously and experience it differently is all.

I don't judge others for defending KF but I do judge others for not being open or understanding as to why he deserves criticism. To me, a free message board is the best place to let all that shit out. Some people don't like it but when everybody is criticizing him it seems, maybe that's a sign...

Some of these cats like @RagnarLothbrok @MeetTheFerentzes @luvmyhawks and a host of others, think you guys agree our coach sucks and that we should all be yelling and complaining daily.
Lol at wisconsin and jnw new coaches. Nebby is really doing well with all their coaches. If Hawks could get Fitzgerald or paul chryst , maybe status quo compared with Ferentz. I hope everyone noticed how great indiana did against osu. Lol

I long for the day when Boomers stop shitting their pants at the prospect of Kirk Ferentz retiring before he’s 90 because they are still suffering from Jerry Burns PTSD.

Wish in one hand and shit in the other…

The OP post (soybean) is not correct because there isn't much if any pissing and moaning going on about winning at Maryland. People don't complain about wins in general.

Your (Ragnarok) post is not correct because lot of boomers aren't worried about Kirk Ferentz staying or going., You do seem to have a strange fascination on what boomers may or may not think.

I am a Boomer that is worried about direction of college athletics in NIL age and whether Iowa teams can compete regardless of who is the coach. No, I'm not worried about Kirk Ferentz leaving and by the way, I was 3 years old when Burns last coached at Iowa.

social media & message boards have destroyed a lot of what used to be "the good old days."

Before the internet, I'd be bummed about a loss but then move on. Now we get to read negativity online, 24/7. I've been disgruntled with the Ferentz era for a while, but I think the negativity gets contagious when it's always accessible.

I don't deny being one of the negative voices, but I try to keep a grip on my emotions. I have a friend who rage posts on Facebook during every game that doesn't go our way.. That's not me.

As I’ve said before, Not at all afraid of Kirk retiring, That said I am also not a believer that Kirk leaving is going to lead to Iowa becoming much more than they currently are, I just believe the geographical and financial limitations are what they are and a new coach will face the same limitations as they try to elevate the program. Iowa is simply not playing on a level playing field with the upper echelon of the conference and I see no reasonable route to changing that.
Probably correct.

This is leaving me with one of three options.

1. Be pissed about it all the time.
2. Watch the games just for something to do, be glad if Iowa wins, shrug if they don't.
3. Find something else to do with my time.

I'm at #2 for the football team, but getting closer to #3 with the men's basketball program.

I've realized that #1 is pointless and self-destructive and I'm done with all that.

I just like to tease Boomers. My parents are great people and I give them shit about it all the time.

Besides, Gen Z is going to carry the torch for worst American generation. Smile 😊

As I think someone said above, some people are extremely black or white, where if you don't love KF (or FM) and kiss the ground they walk on, you are automatically a 'hater' of the Hawks.

Yeah, BS.

In 25 years, KF has shared a conference title twice, zero B1GCG victories and has never been close to national significance in the new standard; IE, making the playoffs.

In 15 years, FM has never shared, let alone won, a conference title, one B1GT title, and a grand total of 2 or 3 NCAA wins (all in the Round of 64, or the play-in opening round).

That's not giving somebody a couple years only to win and win big. These guys have had a lifetime (in terms of coaching and staying at one school) to do something, and they've only made the fan base - as a whole - sit up and take notice about a season's accomplishments like 3-5 times total, in 40 combined years on the job. That means that 35 of those 40 years, the end result was just "ok" or "average".

Sorry, not sorry, if that makes me bored by it all and kinda tired of being able to predict a lot of things based off past results & tendencies that have been building up for decades. I don't hate the Hawkeyes and never will, but I do want more for them and therefore myself, as a fan.

I was born the year Burns became head coach.

I can remember when the possibility of 8-4 wasn't hated in Iowa City. That old HOF coach, Hayden Fry, hung his hat on 8-4 seasons. Now, we have fans on the forum who act like that's below us. What I wonder is when we've ever been so far above it?

If you are unhappy with the Iowa football program the past 20 years. There is a simple way to improve your Saturdays and reduce your stress and ferentz Hate.

Choose an elite team, buy some gear and shazam! Happiness !

Mother ****ers on here love me.

Get on my level. 😊
Despite their belief to the contrary, I don't set out to do it ... but it does amuse me to see the "Ferentz is my God" people get triggered by the slightest bit of criticism of him.

If average mediocrity is considered the baseline to keeping one's job in P4 college football - especially for a coach in Year 25 - not to mention being utterly abysmal (or intentionally blind) in recognizing the preferred qualities of a good QB, then I will gladly relish being a "pisser and moaner" in their eyes.

Speaking of the good old days....

Remember getting lost and having to stop at a gas station and ask the clerk for directions and that clerk knew where North and South were? LOL

Remember when we had face to face conversations instead of conversation thru keyboards?

sigh....
Lolol.. Remember when that clerk could make freakin change without punching it in to the register so it could tell them how much to give back? 😏

This is also true. Where Kirk took the team from his first year to 2002-2005 only changed the fans expectations of where we could be. Now he's chasing those expectations in a much different climate then his first decade as HC.

Shit, I can be a fan of Iowa, really like most everything about Kirk Ferentz, and still think it is time for a change at the HC position.
